A decade after he faked his own death in Miami, forensic scientist/serial murderer Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) was living a quiet life in upstate New York under the guise of shopkeeper "Jim Lindsay." Triggering events, however, mean that his long battle to tamp down his violent impulses will be lost. Showtime miniseries revival reunites Hall, Debra Carpenter, and original showrunner Clyde Phillips; Julia Jones, Clancy Brown, Jack Alcott, Johnny Sequoyah, Alano Miller also star. 10 episodes. 10 hrs. Widescreen; Soundtrack: English. Review: Dexter: New Blood (Season 9) - If you enjoyed watching the first 8 seasons of Dexter you will enjoy this season. The writers did a good job of explaining how dexter has been able to stay off the radar of anyone in his past. Putting in the twist that makes this whole season possible was very imaginative. This season has a good story line that flows well and seems feasible (in a fictional world). Without doing a spoiler. I personally didn’t like the ending and thought the decision that Harrison had to make at the end was wrong (Dexter should have done the action himself). Review: A must watch if you’ve seen Dexter - (Spoilers). This series was a really great spinoff series to Dexter like how they found a new villain and him, and his son teamed up to kill him. It was great.

A better ending than Season 8, but does not quite stick the landing (Season 8 spoilers)
+++Warning, this contains spoilers from Season 8 of the original series but does not contain any major giveaways from New Blood.+++ As most are likely aware, Dexter is a tv series about a "good" serial killer that ran from 2006 to 2013. It ended with Dexter having gotten away with everything, faking his death, and moving to Oregon. That ending left pretty much everyone, including Michael C. Hall, with a bad taste in their mouth. Because of that, this series was thought up by the original series creator, Clyde Phillips, who was no longer a part of the show in season 8, to retcon that ending. New Blood sees Dexter living a normal life in a fictional town called Iron Lake in upstate New York. He works at a fish and game shop, is dating the chief of police (played by Julia Jones), and is living the typical small-town life. We find out that he has abstained from killing for ten years, and seemingly has everything he ever wanted. Of course, things do not remain rosy as his dark passenger rears its ugly head again, and Harrison (played by Jack Alcott) manages to track Dexter down seeking answers. This series has a mostly new cast that includes Jones and Alcott, and also includes the great Clancy Brown, Jamie Chung, Johnny Sequoyah, and Alano Miller. There is a handful of returning characters from the original series, most notably Jennifer Carpenter. I will not spoil her role, but it is not hard to figure out in what capacity she is brought back. I do think the series gets a bad rap for how it ended (there are some absolute crazy one-star reviews from Q nuts that should be totally ignored), but most of the negative reviews revolve around the last few minutes of the final episode. Although I do think some variation on how it ended is the way the show should have ended, I do think that it could have been done better. I personally would have liked to see a bit more of a tie-in with the original series and have the original cast members included in the climax of the series, even if it meant making one more episode. For those who get the Blu-Ray set, the show looks and sounds great in HD. There is some really great cinematography that shows off the filming locations very well. The extras include short featurettes on reviving the show on discs one and two (each just 2-3 minutes long) and then on the fourth disc there is a making-of documentary that runs about 30 minutes. A good amount of material, especially since many series, if they are lucky enough to get a DVD release much less a Blu-Ray release have almost no bonus features. Overall, the series is very good. The ending is controversial, but I do think it is better upon second viewing than it was the first time I watched it, and I get why they made the choices they did. The writing, on the whole, was much better than what we got in Season 8, and the acting by all was superb. Hall and Carpenter fell back into their roles seemingly with ease, Clancy Brown was great, and Jamie Chung pretty much stole every scene she was in (all but one). I certainly cannot say that everyone will like this season, but I think most fans of the show's original run will find this season to be more satisfying than what season eight provided.

Was So glad to see this
I didn't know I would become a Dexter fan,.. but seeing the last couple of seasons drew me it to his character. This set was a welcome addition and it well written in every possible way Every episode tells a story or drops tidbits to the future. Absolutely a must have for serious Dexter fans, but I enjoyed the continued story line. Michael C. Hall voice over is always a sensational part of the character. Beautifully filmed abd excellent script layed out the continued story. Package was well designed and not a digital type at all. I recommend this even for casual fan as well. This has an intriguing story arc and holds you in to the very last episode Not a lot of blood as the series gave us, but more character development.

Is "normalcy" over rated?
I just got into the Dexter series and I really liked this one. The original series had Dexter faking his own death and starting anew. There's been a 10 year lapse since he left Miami. He's become almost "normal". He's friendly. generous and outgoing, with a love life. But time seems to catch up with him as his abandoned son shows up and shakes up Dexter's "normalcy" with issues of his own. Is "normalcy" over rated? The story lines will keep you guessing.

Product fine, Dexter somewhat different
No issues with the product itself. Worked perfectly! It was nice to see Dexter again but I was disappointed that suddenly he's faced with no alternatives but killing, where his M.O. was very different throughout the series. When he faced being exposed by a fellow officer he couldn't kill him. Now he's just a killing machine. I had high hopes for the movie as the series was well written, but it felt like the writers of the movie hadn't watched the series closely. Having said that, I'd still recommend it to a Dexter fan as it wraps it up.

1080p only, not in 4k and not a deal breaker
Great series. However, Amazon.ca lists DEXTER: NEW BLOOD [Blu-ray] as 4k (steelcase or standard version), it was never produced in 4k. If ordered it will be in 1080p. This is by no means a deal breaker it is a great series. Just a mistake by Amazon.ca. I submitted a listing change, hopefully they will correct it.
