For me, the whirly board was too whirly to use with a standing desk while still being productive. This gave it the right level of stability to turn it from a pure workout to a reasonable work day long period core and leg engagement. Then when wanting more of a challenge, just pop it off the ring.

I got it for free when I ordered both the board and ring together. I used it for two days, and after that I was able to balance out the board without the ring.

The ring buckles at the edge of the boards limits dumping me off. The buckling randomly creates jerky balancing making it more difficult than without it.

So far I love the whirly board, but when doing spins I found myself sliding around in the room, which makes sense. That's only really a problem because I'm a bit limited on space where I can use the board; I try to stick to where we have area rugs so I don't risk damage to our wood floors. So, I got the stabilizing ring in the hopes that I could then keep the board exactly where I want it but still be able to do spins/work on balance. It's not really great for that, though. The ring keeps it exactly in place, but it also keeps it completely stiff, so the board doesn't really move much at all when you're on it. You may as well be on a skateboard-shaped step stool. I'm not really sure what the solution to that would be, I might try waxing the ring or something like that, but for now the ring is just sitting on a shelf.
