OXO Good Grips Locking Can Opener

This is hands down the best can opener I’ve ever owned. It works flawlessly and is incredibly smooth and easy to use. The locking mechanism grips the can securely, and the lid catch is a great touch — no sharp edges and no fishing lids out of the can. The most impressive part? I’ve had this can opener for about eight years, and it still looks and works like it did on day one. No rust, no stiffness, no issues at all. That kind of durability is rare these days. Comfortable, reliable, and clearly built to last. If you’re tired of replacing cheap can openers, this one is absolutely worth it. Five stars without hesitation.

I purchased this to replace the old OXO can opener I bought like 15 years ago. It lasted a LONG time and these are even better than the old one. It is very easy to use and even comes with a magnet on the handle for those who don't want to touch it. Great design all around.

I'm pretty clumsy and I'm honestly awful at using generic cheapy can openers. Not exaggerating, this is the best can opener you can get (unless you are getting those fancy shmancy automatic ones. but they are too expensive and take up too much space. Unnecessary.) I bought this back in 2011 and I'm still using it to this day (9 years later). $15.99 is expensive but super cheap for 9 years and going strong. This thing has a cool mechanism where once you attach it onto the can it locks into place like magic!!! Then you just turn the doo hickey and instant perfect can being opened every time! I kid you not prior to this I had tried to open one of my canned tuna with a generic cheap can opener and I kept trying over and over again to get it just right on the edge but once I turned the doo hickey it would just slip right off and never actually cut or open anything. Or it would turn and act like it was doing it but when I looked, nothing happened. Can was just going on a circle ride with nothing happening. Most likely because it was never actually secured or on the edge incorrectly and I could not figure it out. IT WAS AWFUL I WAS HUNGRY. Get this can opener. You will not regret. 9 years going strong here!

Pros - Smooth cutting, easy to turn handle. Fairly lightweight for a handheld can opener. Ergonomics okay with one exception - the lock feature is a positive and negative. It's good that it stays locked in while opening the can, but to remove it from the can you have to push the button to unlock, and that's pretty awkward if you don't have large hands as you need to hold on to the can with one hand while removing the can opener with your other hand. Cons - It's also just too expensive, in my opinion, for a can opener. While the lock feature is a plus in keeping the opener gripped to the can, it's a negative when trying to push the button to open it when finished. I might buy again and might recommend, but my old Oxo can opener lasted 20 years and I should have probably just purchased the same model.

I've used many wonderful OXO products. This isn't one of them. It worked ok for just under 3 months but then it stopped functioning. It will no longer latch onto the can and pierce the metal. It just won't work anymore. Avoid this product.

This frankly wasn't the design OXO opener I was looking for at the time, but I am quite satisfied with it. It's even easy for my wife (who has Parkinson's Disease) to use.
