Can this be used to thin paints?

I have only used it to clean brushes. I only use Gamsol to thin my paint

Do you have to start with clean solvent each time?

I use the solvent until it gets ruddy enough then use a new one. It's too expensive to use a new one everytime. I'd go broke! Lol
