Can this be used for hammering (chisel), rotory hammering (bit)? Using regular bits and chisels,

I can't speak for the keyless version of the Bosch 1/2" chuck adapter. But I have the keyed version of Bosch's 1/2" chuck adapter! The keyed version, employs a a special chuck body with a sliding shank, that (like an SDS chuck,) transmits the percussive energy directly into the back of whatever tool or bit is installed in the Jacobs chuck. I used my adapter to fit a 30" x 1-3/4 bulb auger, into Dewalt's 18volt SDS+ roto hammer. Then used this combination, for several days, in the rotor hammer mode, without a failure. (A roto hammer fitted with a bulb auger, is my tool of choice when the task is the extrication of woody shrubs, and their gordian root systems!)

Which is better, Bosch key or keyless construction?

Keyless is better specially if you start drill and forget key is still in the chuck

Is the SDS Shank removable? Does the chuck loosen when operating in the opposite direction or is there a flat spot to lock the chuck on the shank?

Yes, it locks in place just like a bit would. Works great, I used it to mix mortar for 2K feet of floor tile.

How do you lock it into position so that it is not moving up and down?

Absolute Rubbish

Even though this chuck is branded Bosch I seriously doubt the credibility of same. After a few weeks of normal use it basically fell to pieces and gave up. Had much better use out of unbranded and much cheaper chucks. Save your money and don't purchase this piece of garbage.
