apparently it comes with an activation code that's on a card in the box. Unfortunately I cannot find that card, so the product is useless?

There is no need for any card; the camera is synced to your app by showing a QR code on your phone and having you place orient your phone screen in front of the camera to scan. Many wireless cameras utilize this method nowadays.

How long is the power cord?

It’s not long enough- but it is just a micro USB to USB-A CORD. I GOT A 3 pack of 10 foot cables from Amazon veryreasonable

Any alternative power option? such as solar battery to usb? having to put these things within 6' of a power outlet is extremely limiting.

These units are designed to run with a constant AC power connection. While there may be alternatives to consider, it is not recommended or supported.
