6 NIMH 4/5 SubC Sub C 1.2V 1800mAh Rechargeable Batteries with Tabs

I have a B&D Power Screwdriver (actually a Craftsman made by B&D). The batteries have been weakening for some time so I decided to rebuild the screwdriver. Took it apart to identify the battery type and size (4/5 sub C). Disassembled the drive gears and motor, cleaned and lubricated gearing and ordered 6 NIMH 4/5 SubC Sub C 1.2V 1800mAh Rechargeable Batteries with Tabs. Once the batteries arrived I assembled three batteries soldering the tabs and using the cardboard coverings to prevent shorts. After wedging the battery pack into the screwdriver I charged it for a day.The power is back and I can drive multiple screws before depleting charge. The original batteries were only rated 600mAh, and these batteries last three times longer. So far no complaints, and I have three batteries waiting in the wings. Maybe I will repair my other tools.

While I'm not so sure of the 1800 mAh rating the price was much better that replacing the tool. For those soldering the tabs together consider using a touch of flux and keep the heat low.

Folks will tell you they can be rejuvenated, well maybe. This is much easier and better. You just need to be a bit handy with soldering. You just need to be careful around the plastic covering. With the new batteries the tool has more power, charges last far longer and it just keeps going.

The form factor uses all of the 4/5 sub C space available. Contact tabs are slightly thinner than expected. When tested, the capacity is about 1250mah when using care to not overcharge. Expected around 1300 for this size NiMH. Probably not 1800mah.Given limited sources, I can't expect much better. I will update after some hard use.

After replacing the original 4/5 Sub-C size rechargeable batteries in a Craftsman electric screwdriver, these new batteries performed much better and longer than the original OEM battery versions.

Arrived on time and nicely packed. I needed to repower my screwdriver with 3 of these. They work great. One charge and I have not needed to recharge for 3 weeks. They have powered the driver in light use, and they have held the charge well. More positives will come with length of service, but so far so good.

Replaced the batteries in my 10 year old cordless vacuum. Now it lasts long enough to do the entire house with power left over.
