Question 1

Is this usable once you are in the shower or only for getting in & out. Is it possible to tuck liner behind bar without water getting everywhere?

I tuck the shower liner behind the bar once my Mom is inside the tub. Then I put a small towel on the floor just in case. I have not had any problems with excess water. Its a very sturdy bar. I would order again. You could also cut a slit in your curtain to access the handle.

Question 2

Can you use this on a fiberglass tub ?

No guarantees, and it will depend on the shape of the inside and outside of your tub.  The unit clamps over the side of the tub, and if both the inside and outside of the tub are pretty much flat and vertical, then this will work - IF the fiberglass is fairly stiff.   You will have to be careful that you do not tighten the clamp down so tight that it cracks the tub, but it will have to be tight enough so it will not slip.  Also keep in mind that especially with a fiberglass tub, the bathtub bar should only be used to steady yourself, not to put your full weight on to pull yourself up, etc.  I have a porcelain on cast iron tub that you could drive a truck over and this unit works great.  On fiberglass, I expect this will be OK if used with care, and will be much safer than just trying to grab a slippery, soapy tub edge.  It also stands up a foot or so above the edge of the tub, so it is much easier to reach when standing, and I really use it the most to steady myself when getting in and out of the tub.

will this one work on a claw foot tub?

I think it should work. it will hook over the rounded rim of your tub, and the bracket is down lower, and it  has a nob that tightens it. If your rounded rim at top is too narrow , The width if the top part that rests in the top edge measures 3 1/2 inches. If the top rounded rim of your tub is smaller, Im sure you could wedge a piece of wood or plastic in to make it fit. Hopefully, maybe someone who has a claw foot tub, and has  the bracket, will answer your question.   I hope it will work for you because It is very sturdy, and so helpful. Goodluck. Sally

What is vertical height from 'bottom edge' of the 'clamp' part to the top of clamp? Is it 'deep enough' to grip well?

Accepted Answer

The clamp area is 4.5" high x 3.6" deep x 6" wide. The depth is somewhat adjustable by way of the adjusting handle to insure a snug grip.  Yes, it's very sturdy and grips well.
