expensive mistake
My review is about 1003 short shaft. Posting here because I want to warn you - you might regret to buy anything from Torqeedo. I bought 1003 in December 2018. After trying to "calibrate" the unit for a month or so I gave up. I had to do calibration every time I turned it off. Support is not useful at all. Was told to bring it to the shop ( the only one in S. California ). When I ask what they will try to do, I was told " we will calibrate it". Right. I decided to return defective unit and was told no returns!I got lucky and managed to exchange this unit for a new one ( please note, not at Torqeedo affiliated business, thank you guys ). This unit keeps calibration but recently stopped working. E30. Check the connections... I have to plug the cables a dozen time to make E30 go away.So much for german engineering.... The same shop that helped me with exchange now offering me to exchange this "technical marvel" for a gas powered outboard and I am doing it shortly. Some people are happy with torqeedo, I am not. Two defective units out of two , no support, no returns no nothing.Expensive mistake

Absolute garbage. Warranty scam.
The black bottom bulb part that goes in the water is made of brittle plastic. Mine got a hairline crack during shipping, water got inside, and the outboard was destroyed when water got in. Other people have had issues with barely bumping into stuff, getting a crack, and then the outboard is ruined. Do your research, this outboard is garbage. The warranty is a scam. If you do not keep the original packaging, they will not honor the warranty. They quoted me about $2500 to fix a $3500 outboard. I'd only had it 1 month.

fast, silent, surprisingly powerful.
love it - I read the review of the crack - I dont know what to say - I bang mine against my boat all the time storing it back inside the boat and nothing has ever cracked. I actually just LOVE this thing - fast, powerful, silent. have it on a sailboat and its great. have the 3HP 1003C for our dingy. highly recommend them. pricey compared to gas, but just great all around and worth it if you can afford it
