Lightweight, Good Protection from the Elements
This is a review of the AcuRite 06054M Solar Radiation Shield I know this shield was designed to hold and protect the AcuRite brand sensors, but I bought it in the hope that it would hold my La Crosse brand temperature/weather sensors, and Iโm happy to report that the La Crosse sensors fit perfectly. Whoever designed these solar shields knew what they were doing, when they fitted them with a simple, but clever securing system, consisting of a membrane of flexible plastic located just below the top interior of the plastic shield. The sensor is inserted upright into the cowbell-shaped shield, through the open base of the shield. The La Crosse sensors are just under 5.75โ high, and the shield measures about 6.5โ from itโs base to itโs interior dome. The membrane that holds the sensor in place is located approximately 0.5โ below the interior dome. This is just enough space to allow the โearsโ of the membrane to surround and establish a decent grip on the top of the sensor. As noted earlier, the membrane is flexible, but itโs just firm enough to get a decent grip on the sensor. This permits both easy installation and removal of the sensor. The shieldโs overlapping louvers allow air to flow through it, while keeping sun, rain and snow away from the sensor. There are several ways to mount the shield: by utilizing the built-in plastic loop at the top exterior of the shield, it can be affixed to a shepherdโs pole, or hung from a tree branch via a monofilament, or other, line; or by using the slotted tabs located near the top rear of the shield, to hang it on a wall, or a tree, via a nail or screw. The shield only weighs about 7.75 ounces (empty), so it doesnโt take much to hold it in place. I would have purchased the La Crosse brand solar radiation shield, since I have La Crosse brand sensors, but they were no longer available, as of this writing. Overall, Iโm happy with the AcuRite shields, even though they are a little bit pricier than I had hoped. Iโve submitted a few photos, some of which Iโve labeled. I hope they help answer a few questions that you might have.

Works as described
Keeps weather and most importantly direct sunlight off sensor. I get accurate readings. Mine is hung under a tree. In late afternoon sunlight hits the sensor, this minimizes any high readings.

Solves a problem of an unshielded outdoor wall thermometer sensor
I recently bought a blue-tooth outdoor temperature/humidity set. The sensor hangs on an outdoor wall. It snowed the night I installed it, and I noticed it was collecting snow on top of it. It was six inches of a snow cap. I decided the sensor required protective shielding from the weather. Through multiple attempts (what do you call such a thing?), I finally found a weather shield for outdoor sensors. I noticed that the shield itself had the slip over a screw slot on its backside, so I figured there might be one on the inside as well. The shield arrived early! Amid a severe winter storm! So I thought, how perfect. However, the inside did not have the screw-like widget that would allow a hanging sensor to be easily removed to change batteries. But if you have a sensor that needs to be mounted inside this shield, the design is such that I could mount the sensor using a long cable tie without too much trouble. I would say if you have a reasonably sized wall sensor, you could purchase this shield, and with a screw for the shield mounting, and a cable tie for your sensor, you could be in business in a matter of minutes! I recommend this shield if you have a remote outdoor sensor that collects snow or rain. It is adaptable to reasonably shaped sensors.

May need to modify for use
since i used it for a different item, i had to modify to hold my weather station detector. But it is working very well for keeping the temp and humidity detector i put in it safe from weather.

Fits other brand remote monitors
Purchased this item before to house an AcuRite brand outdoor sensor and protect it from the elements. It is attached to the back of my shed where it is protected from sun and somewhat from weather. It has held up for several years. The plastic hasn't become brittle and I have removed the sensor a few times to replace batteries. I was concerned that the plastic clip inside this housing would eventually break or become brittle from the repeated yanking in and out of the sensor but it is just as good as the day I put it up. Compared to the brand new one, the only thing I noticed was that the older one has yellowed just a bit. In the photo, the old is on the left and new on the right. Here's the best part. Some other brands of outdoor sensors have a similar shape and design and fit perfectly into this housing. Because I now have two weather stations, and they are two different brands, I can see that they are very accurate, or at least within a point or 2 of one another. I was able to test the best location and can say that exposure to sun, even a small bit, will drastically increase the outdoor temperature reading. If it is placed too close to the ground, the humidity tends to read higher as well. I use metal siding clips to hang these solar shields from the back of my shed which has double-lap siding and receive the metal clips easily. Once they're hung, there is no movement that I've noticed from wind or weather.

Nice and sturdy transmitter shield!
Fast shipping! The solar shield is stout, well made, yet fairly light-weight. The clip in the dome should fit the AcuRite outdoor temp/humidity unit for which it was designed. I bought it, crossing fingers, it might fit the outdoor transmitter I bought, a Dreamsky, but did not as the hanger loop on the transmitter won't fit in the dome, too small. No big deal as I took off the top, drilled a hole and glued in a hook to hang the Dreamsky transmitter. The square style and the reason I bought it. See photo of interior sturdy but flexible clip the AcyRite transmitter fits into.

Does the job
I bought this to use as a sun shield for a Unni outdoor temperature sensor. The sensor easily snapped into the top of this shield, and I hung it from a tree branch in the back yard. It is sturdy, easy to use and does the job. The only negative comment I have is the price is on the high side but these days everything is expensive and at least this one cost less than similar ones by competitors.

Easily fitted with other make sensors
My Youshiko outside sensor was incompatible with this shield's fittings. Easily fixed with cable ties and works well. The readings seem more accurate as the sensor is now away from the wall giving readings of -4Cwhich is the true reading. Cheaper than other sheilds
