Best Gamer Headphones Sony PlayStation Ever put out
Truly Let me tell you. I don't do reviews much But I truly had to with these Sony PlayStation platinum headphones. WoW to me is the word. Great Tight fit. If you really have a BIG BIG HEAD then they might not feel too comfortable. These to me fit Great. Now let's talk about sound. These to me sound better than the gold headphones that Sony PlayStation put out. The Bass is crisp they’re not booming but overall great bass they are not going to blow you away with bass and Sony’s unique PlayStation volume with the highs in the mid range and high’s are always fabulous. I recommend highly that you put the button volume setting on the right side of the headphones to wide range to me this sounds overall way better also make sure you do download the equalization headphones app on the PlayStation 4 Console. now the surround sound and 3-D sound on these headphones are amazing only if you have the games that support the headphones or surround sound games that support the audio. but even if you don’t have those kind of games it still sounds amazing. Now what I really like best in these headphones not just to listen on PlayStation 4. they really sound great with Music on your phone with the included headphone wire that attaches to your phone Now if you have a iPhone make sure that you have the iPhone headphone adapter which you can purchase through Amazon. these will not connect Bluetooth to the headphones you will have to use the wire adapter to plug it into your phone but when you do the sound is amazing for music. once again they are not going to blow you away for headphones on your phone compared to beats audio or the more expensive headphones that is at least $200 or $300 dollars. But for The price you’re paying for them they sound amazing to me and I’m sure as well to you but everybody’s different. But another thing I very much love is talking on these headphones whether it be on your phone OR Gaming Chat and believe me the sound of them hearing you and listening to people talk to them is amazing remember they have two microphones on these headphones so people will hear you very well when you speak. I’m on the phone a lot I should know because I do a lot of my business on the phone. And Work from home. I have never had a problem of people hearing me and hearing them. know when you use these headphones as I mentioned they are not Bluetooth headphones They come with a Dongle Plug that you put in your PlayStation USB Port... to talk on your phone or listen to music they have wire to talk on your phone and the great thing about that is that you don’t have to turn the headphones on and use up the battery so they will last completely because they’re wired to your phone but remember if you have an iPhone please get the Headphone wire adapter for your iPhone. You can’t get that from Amazon. these to me overall are great gaming and talking or chatting or listening to music all around headphones I really do love them and hope you will too I give them about a 7 From 1 TO 10 on comfort but if you play very long hours they may hurt your head and I’m talking about 3 to 4 hours if it’s a couple hours for some people you will be OK but comfort I will rate them overal 7. The great thing about these headphones is that the headband is metal they won’t snap like the gold headphones which happened to me which is plastic these are much better and durable and lasting longer. Believe me they are worth the price you won’t be disappointed just take your time and make them work for you also play around with the ear adjustment to give you the right fit hope I made people make a better decision about the Sony PlayStation platinum headphones.

Astro A50 vs PS4 Platinum
Going to compare the Astro A50 to the PS4 Platinum headset since the Astro A50 was my main gaming headset prior to purchasing the PS4 Platinum Headset --Sound Quality: Astro A50s have better sound quality. Not that the PS4 Platinum is bad, there's not a massive difference in quality, but if you are an audiophile you will notice a difference. PS4 Platinum gives off a more exaggerated sound while the A50 sounds more natural. A50 has a better range in terms of audio quality (does well in low, mids and highs) as the Sony Platinum is good at mid to highs. PS4 Platinum has a better spacial awareness or where enemies and sound is coming from in game (especially with 3D audio*). So if you are a hardcore gamer and want a more functional headset (in terms of gameplay) compared to one that sounds better, the PS4 platinum is a better choice. *3D audio is only present in a few games at the moment and it spacial awareness is amazing. The spacial awareness still works on titles that do not support 3D audio, but not as pronounced as you cannot hear what's above or below you. Both Astro A50 and PS4 Platinum you are able to hear what's going on around you (not top/bottom with non-3d audio compatible games for Sony Plat) but Sony Platinum does a better job. Hope this headset catches on as i like to see more games with 3D audio. --Build: PS4 Platinum has a weaker build as I say most of the cost went into the technology. The PS4 platinum is able to fold up if you want to travel with it or put it in a compact storage space. In general the Astro A50s has a more sturdy build, but not as portable. Both are very comfortable to wear over extended periods of time Astro A50 buttons are easier to press and is more user friendly especially with the analog scroll volume wheel . PS4 Platinum has most of the functions along the back side of the headset and most buttons have similar tactile feedback so it's hard to get a grasp at it at times. --Visual aesthetic: Exception of the metal band on top the PS4 Platinum looks very bland A50 has a lot of going on especially with the spiral cords on the side of the headset --Compatibility: Right off the bat, if you want surround sound on the PS4 Platinum headset, it ONLY works on the PS4/PS4 Pro. If you want to use it on other devices it will only output stereo. Astro A50 surround sound can be outputted on other devices like PC and XboxOne (if you have the adapter) Both does not have bluetooth as they have their own receiver. Astro A50 uses a mix amp while the Sony Platinum uses a USB dongle With the Astro A50 there's more wiring as you have to connect it the PS4 via wired USB and an optical cable. PS4 Platinum just used a Wireless USB dongle, so you just plug and play instead of fiddling around with wires. If you want to use your headset to connect to a device with a 3mm jack, the PS4Platinum as a dedicated 3mm headphone port on the headset itself, but know that it only outputs stereo. Astro A50 on the other hand, have no wired 3mm option to the headset itself as you have to connect via the mix amp which needs to connect via USB power source, and 3mm audio cable coming out of the mix amp. Sony Platinum is more portable in this sense as if you want to bring the Astro A50 out in public you have to connect the mix amp via power bank and deal with two separate wires Both have custom software, but the PS4 Platinum is easily accessible via PS4 app if you play on the PS4. For the Astro A50 you have to set it up via PC then download the info to the headset before you can use a new custom preset. The PS4 Platinum headset app has custom setting for specific games that the developers put in that take advantage of the 3D audio. As of this review only 4 titles are available: Uncharted 4, Watch Dogs 2, Last Guardian, and MLB The Show 16 --Mic Quality: Both are about the same. Astro A50 is slightly better, but if you don't listen to them side-by-side and try to focus on the audio they're generally the same. You can hear each other person well on the other end and vice versa. Astro A50s you have to pull down the mic so it's in front of your face, but that's generally not an issue. It's easier to mute chat volume with Astro A50 as you just have to lift up the boom mic as i find that much faster than reaching back and hitting a dedicated mute button on the Sony Platinum --Battery Life: PS4 platinum has 2-3 times more battery than the Astro A50s depending on volume and chat settings --Summary: For the price I'd say the PS4 Platinum is a good value if you're on a budget (only if you play it on the PS4 as the surround sound doesn't work on any other devices) as the Astro A50 you'll be paying $100+ more depending on where you purchase it. If you can shell out more I'd go for the A50 if you want a more immersive audio experience Astro A50 has better audio quality, but PS4 Platinum out preforms it in spacial awareness. Astro A50 has a better build, but if you don't' toss your headset in the corner of the room each time, both should last a long time. It's easier to access buttons with the Astro A50s even if you build muscle memory on the PS4 Platinum as the locations and tactile feedback of the buttons on the Astro A50s are more intuitive Battery life on the PS4 Platinum is way better. Personally I'm going to use both, now I can use the A50 as a PC only headset since before I have to keep moving the Mix Amp when I want to change console/systems. If you have any questions or find this review helpful leave a comment. Hope this helps you in your purchasing decision. Thank you.

Impressive audio quality for a gaming headset!
To be honest, I was expecting VERY little out of this headset. Background info: I'm an audiophile who listens to a ton of symphonic metal, and audio quality is my top priority for anything related to sound. I have some amazing headphones that I was well aware the Platinums wouldn't be able to stand up to, but I figured I could give em a shot since these are PS4 compatible. It took me a sec to get the headset and adapter to pair — if the indicator lights blink blue twice repeatedly, you need to reset the adapter (instructions are in the official online manual). Once paired, I highly recommend immediately going to the companion app on your PS4 to make a custom equalizer setting. The Platinums sound very tinny out of the box, but after cranking up the bass and lowering the treble, I was shocked that they sounded pretty good! The sound gets muddy on the minute details when there's five different instruments happening, and they don't produce the kind of headbanging thunder I'm always seeking. But I was impressed with the audio quality I did get: a pretty good bass rumble, vibrant vocals, and crisp treble. Definitely not perfect, but the Platinums mostly held their own for every band I threw at them, and that's extremely impressive. While the audio quality for music was pretty good, the Platinums truly excel at the most important thing for a gaming headset — sound effects! Footsteps, door creaks, gunfire, leaves rustling, campfire crackling etc all sound AMAZING. Again, the bass-heavy explosions leave a bit to be desired, but all those up close and personal kind of noises are shiver inducing. TL;DR: A relatively rumbly bass, muddy but acceptable mids, and crisp treble once you adjust with the equalizer companion app. Struggles to keep up when there's a lot happening in a song. Close range sound effects sound fantastic. The Platinums are best used for gaming, but are not bad for music either!

Happy with product, good quality upgrade over the playstation gold
Use to have the gold headset for several years, the battery life was starting to slowly deterorate and i would have to charge my mic in the middle of particularlly long gaming sessions. I need a second pair so that if one dies i still have the other, i decided it was time for an upgrade. Wow this one had been way nicer. Much stronger surround sound which is a huuge advantage for rainbow six siege(my most played game) but it is also really nice for other games where I'm talking and playing like zombies and battlefield, captures sounds really well. If i had been using these when playing alien isolation in the dark in the middle of the night, i probably would have been too scared to keep playing. All the other features work the way the gold did but with slightly different positioning of the buttons. First thing out of the box, i noticed how much sleeker and nicer it was, it feels classier in every way, slightly more comfortable on the head than the gold (i my head is medium sized). I was concerned at them being double the price (getting a gold would have been only 75 when i was making my purchase) but seeing how classy they look and feel so much smoother and softer plus the improved sound all leads to me being very happy with my purchase. They are now now my preferred set of headphones that i will use first and only use my golds for back up if this one is charging. I do wish they were a little cheaper like around120 i think would be fair but i also wish that dualshock 3 controllers were cheaper and i still buy those and think that they are fantastic so the same applies here.

Decent headset but overpriced for what it offers
In the past 4 months, I've had the Astro A50s Gen 2 and Steelseries Siberia 800s, so I will be comparing some things about the Platinum to those headsets, so you might find some criticisms not entirely fair ("Astros and Siberias are like twice the cost! Not fair, low energy, SAD!"), however try to see where I'm coming from, and read this and the next paragraph about pricing of other headsets. I am also going to get the LS40's soon, which retail for $200, so maybe I'll update this review about how those compare to the Platinum in a week or two. I'll quickly note that I did not use 3D audio, so I won't be commenting on that, but seeing how few games even support it, I don't think it's really something to get this headset for, unless you play tons of Uncharted 4. I'll try to make this pretty short (bold faced lie). The headset is decent, but for $160, you can get a better surround sound wireless headset for similar pricing, maybe even cheaper if you're willing to go used/refurbed on Amazon/other online retailers (I paid between $100 and $150 for the a50s and 800s I got, with the 800s being in incredibly good condition). However, if you really liked the Gold headset and want to stay within the Playstation brand, then this will easily be an improvement for you in every way. Some pros: -Good directional audio. In MW Remastered, I heard my own dead silence footsteps better than I was on the Siberia 800s, which is very impressive to say the least, however that could be partly due to the EQ settings I was using on the 800s, but for those footstep listening moments in gaming, this should easily get the job done. -Mic is surprisingly good, I recommend lowering its sensitivity to make it better for noise cancellation. I never owned the Golds, but from what I heard, the Gold's mic was pretty bad, so this is definitely an improvement. I'd rate it as only a little bit worse than the Siberias/A50s. You'll sound clear for anyone listening. A lot of youtube reviews don't do it justice, as their testing format makes it sound worse than it really is. -Battery life is also pretty good. A lot of people say 10-12 hours, but I was never fully able to drain it within a day of gaming, so battery life should be a non issue for most people. A quick comparison to the other headsets I've had, the Platinum easily beat out the Gen 2 50s (I got like 4-5 hours on those), but the Siberia 800s on the otherhand have perhaps the greatest battery solution in a headset to date, they use dual, swappable batteries, so you'll literally never plug in your headset, as each battery should last upwards of 10 hours as the other one charges. -I really like the clean design of the Platinums. They look like an attractive piece of tech. -Incredibly clean setup, meaning you'll have no wires or transmitter ampbox to put somewhere, instead you'll have only the dongle. Now this allows for the least amount of wires in any wireless headset I've owned, as for operation, you'll only need the headset and USB dongle, while previous headsets needed an optical audio cord, and at least one USB cord to supply power/voice chat that both connect to a transmitter box. Now this may not really be that much of a pro, however it's something I think is commendable. There is however a potential downside to this I'll address right below. Some cons: -While the audio is decent, it is not as good as the audio quality you'll get in a headset that uses the optical audio port, like the Astros, Siberias, and even the LS40s, as well as many others. I'm not sure what the specs would be of the audio being outputted from the USB dongle, but I can say for certain it's not as rich as the audio I was getting from my Astros and Siberias. The cost of having a small USB dongle rather than a transmitter mixamp like the others that use the optical cable is probably why. I do know however the LS40s also has a USB dongle, but that dongle is connected to the ps4's optical port, so it will be interesting to see if that offers audio quality similar with the Astros and Siberias. Some things I'm neutral on: -Build quality for the most part is good, but I think most headsets don't break immediately within the few days/weeks of using them, so I can't really say for certain if these are going to last years, but I'm leaning towards them probably being fine. -Comfort. They're for the most part comfortable, but definitely not as comfortable as the A50s or Siberia 800s were. Now is also a good time to note that ps4 slims don't have optical ports, so if you want a gaming headset for the slim, you're going to be more limited, making the Platinums potentially a better buy. I guess I'll leave it at what my title says, this headset for the most part is pretty good, but for its current price point, I would recommend looking for other headsets, maybe wait for sales/price drops in the coming months, or if you want to go the Amazon warehouse/ebay route and get it used for cheaper.

Meh - if not for wireless PS4 capability/restriction I would pass
These do exactly what I needed them to do: connect wirelessly to my PS4 Pro and PS4. The sound is decent. The band can be adjusted fairly widely it seems (but hard to say as I only have one head to try them on). While I rate these a 4-star against what I understood I was purchasing, on a 5 point scale of headphone quality against all headphones (sound, comfort, convenience - anything but price), these are 1's or 2's however. For the price, I received exactly what I expected. But for the label of 'platinum' I was disappointed. Pros connects wirelessly to PS4 audio quality is decent battery appears that it will last a full day of playing Cost is low compared to better quality designs (but my Bose QC 25's and 35's will not connect wirelessly to my PS4s) Cons - within an hour I had a sore spot on the top of my head from where these rest. And I was planning to use these a LOT. (as a comparison, my Bose - Quality Comforts I can wear all day and never experience a hot spot on my head) these are very bulky. VERY bulky - The battery appears it will only last a full day of playing (I was hoping that initially it would last at least 20 hours but I believe 12 hours is what I would have experienced. I say 'would' because I just could not wear these continuously due to the pain they caused the crown of my head) - The controls are tiny hard plastic and difficult to use. If I tried to manipulate the controls while the headset was on, it took fumbling and feeling for an extended period to operate. Also, if I take the headphones off, the text is so small on the controls that I was still fumbling and eventually pulling out the manual. - I don't care for the audio 'programs' you can load into the headphones with the companion PS4 app. But, you don't have to use it I suppose. I guess to sum it up is that since Sony forced me to purchase a new set of wireless headphones (not allowing me to use my Bose QC 35s), these are affordable. On the other hand, they only tick me off as their poor quality (as compared to my Bose QC 35s) just reminds me that I have a much nicer pair of headphones Sony will not allow me to use (unless I want to go corded). But, to be fair to the person considering these: they do what they say they will do, and most of my points are not critical - just the one about a sore spot on my head from extended wear: that's something to look out for,

Much Better Than Gold Headset
I bought this headset as a replacement for my Gold headset, because the hinges started to break (which is a very common problem on the Gold headset apparently). I bought these under the assumption that spending 80 dollars more would mean better quality. So far I am happy to say I was right. The basics of the headset are still the same as the Gold. You have the two different audio settings that you can adjust in the Headset Companion app (which you SHOULD DOWNLOAD as it provides firmware updates for the headset, it downloaded one for me when I installed it). You have rocker switches for volume and game/chat balance. There is also the standard mute button as well as a switch (on the right earmuff) to turn 3D audio on and off. The build quality is far better. While they still appear to have plastic hinges, they are thicker, so as long as you are careful with them and don't drop them down the stairs, they should be fine. There is also a metal band on top instead of a plastic band like the Gold headset. This is good since my Gold headset started breaking there. The 7.1 Surround 3D audio is amazing. I can hear where people are coming and from what direction in Overwatch and Destiny now. Also, this headset actually stays connected to the PS4 without cutting out and reconnecting like the non-Sony headsets that I have tried recently (like LucidSound and Turtle Beach). I would definitely recommend this headset if you still want Sony's API while having a better quality than the Gold headset.

Awesome headset, great price.
I returned the Astro A50s (newer version Gen 4) for this PS Platinum headset. Its a world of difference. I was so put off by the sound of the Astros and the big kicker was their ridiculous price tag. I figured I would give them a try but it didn't work out. The Platinum headset feels great, I love how the headband is metal and the ear cups are as well. It feels premium but for half the price of Astros. (more than half). The ear cups fit great and the game and chat voice separation is easy to work with, no hassle. These don't have a whole lot of bass to them but that wasn't a deal breaker for me. I love the idea of being able to charge them and use them at the same time, just have to go corded for a little bit. I have noticed when they are wireless I have had a couple cut outs for a split second, maybe two and then its back to normal. I would blame that on the headset but my Turtle Beach Elite 800s did the same exact thing. I'm pretty sure its most likely a frequency issue and something else is interfering with them. I don't plan on chasing the problem down because it is very minor and isn't worth it. I have also used this headset on a PC and it sounds great as well.

Excelente calidad.

Dissapointing.
Item was up to expectations. However, the bluetooth dongle adapter stopped working after 2 weeks. And I am currently looking for a replacement dongle adapter. Am still able to comnect it via wired connection but the buttons on the headset cant be used.
