If you want to learn to make your own tool handles here is a good start.
I purchased this explicitly because it was two-sided (I'm left handed, but wanted flexibility too), and it presented a good opportunity to try making a handle out of dogwood wood I had resawn. It arrived sharp, and I have not had to resharpen it after light use. I would suggest opting for a thicker blade. The groove this cuts is so fine it's hard to see. My my mistake. The blade did not arrive with brass pins as pictured.

Knife is good, pins for handles are not!
How frustrating! I have "built" a LOT of knives (well, not the steel part, but handles). This nice little knife came with holes in the blank that were too small for the brass pins they included! AND, they pinch cut the pins, to they splayed out on the ends and were even wider until the end was sanded down. Really? Annoying and unnecessary!

A fun project tool
Instead of getting a finished and handled marking knife getting this and making my own handles was a fun project. Adding a personalized tool to your shop is a great feeling and this blade is very sharp.

Simple fun kit
Wanting to buy a marking knife, and I found this instead. Why not make a little project out of it? I used contrasting wood scales so I easily know which side of the knife is flat (blood wood and yellow heart). The blade is sharp though my tip isn't perfect, but I'll easily be able to work it to a point. Now I've got something unique I can hopefully have for many years to come!
