Island dressings a necessary part of a hiker’s comprehensive blister treatment kit. For deroofed blisters you should instead use a hydrocolloid dressing like Compeed (which should remain on undisturned for several days). However, for intact and torn blisters, you want to isolate and protect the blister from potential sources of infection. To keep the island dressing on during movement and friction, you might need to wrap around it with something like Hypafix (not Leukotape which does not stretch). Leukotape is OK for a hot spot which has not yet developed into a blister.
