Great comeback, great liner notes on the history of all the songs. Her voice has definitely changed but is very haunting!

The star rating is an average: Five stars for the music, one for Domino's confounding tiered release scheme....quite a fine LP. Collins voice has aged and weathered since the last time she recorded, and its ravages actually rather suits the more autumnal tendencies explored on this nicely recorded set.Unfortunately, Domino has joined the growing list of record labels (Superior Viaduct, Secretly Canadians, Alive, etc.) who seem to have no problem with giving vinyl customers less than CD folks – even though the LP editions are more expensive. The CD version of this album comes with liner notes that are unavailable with the standard issue LP. You DO have the privilege of ordering direct from Domino and paying additional dough + shipping for a "deluxe" LP edition that includes everything the standard CD does. Thanks for that honor, Domino!

She is a bit of a legend, been around a long time. Quite a story to tell.

After so long an absence it is very gratifying to be able to welcome a new recording by Shirley Collins. This is a fine album. Shirley's voice has grown darker with the years but she sings beautifully. She has selected some beautiful traditional songs and she is supported by excellent younger musicians.

Booked to see SC at Celtic Connections on the strength of this album. Enchanting

シャーリー・コリンズが、80歳を過ぎても良きサポーターに支えられて地道な音楽活動を続けていることは彼女の公式ホームページを見れば分かりますし、ロンドンのユニオン・チャペルで久しぶりに歌ったという話題もありましたが、まさかCDが出るとは思いませんでした。たしかに声や歌い方は昔と比べるべくもありませんが、彼女の新譜が出たことを素直に喜ぶべきでしょう。1580年に書かれたバラッドからアラン・ローマックスとの1959年のフィールド・トリップで収録した曲、さらに1929年にあのヴォカリオン・レコードから発売されたケイジャン・ソングまで、雑多ではありますが実に端正な音楽で、聞いていると清々しい気分になります。全10曲の解説と歌詞つきのブックレットも良くできています。

Wish I had come across this wonderful lady earlier! Will certainly look forward to catching up with her past work.
