Review: Mirkwood Streetwear - I love this thing. I got a green one for a Renn Faire last year and bought another in black just for me. The fabric is lightweight and breathable with a little bit of stretch. I bought a large and an XL. Both fit fine, but the XL hangs nicer on me (6 ft, 200lbs). And the hood is HUGE. I have never had a hood hang this well without some kind of support lining. Drawbacks are pretty few and simple. It doesn't stay closed on its own. (Get a decorative safety pin to keep it shut.) The material is also not period-accurate. If you are getting this for a costume, it is clearly a modern fabric. It is also a somewhat feminine cut. We are firmly in gender-neutral territory, but I think women will have an easier time styling this garment. That is not about to stop me though.

I have had this for a few months (and a few washes). I LOVE it; it flows and drapes well, but the fabric (which is only thick enough to be opaque) is starting to pill just a little (hence 4 stars instead of 5). If I were a very high-end sort of dresser this would bother me a lot; I am not, so it's fine, and I can fully enjoy the drama of wearing a flowy-cape-like jacket. Sleeves are quite snug, and I'm not super-built. Hood is HUGE and will blow off in the slightest wind (because it's basically a kite), but really it mostly makes style-sense to keep it draped over one's shoulders anyhow. I am 5'6" and my size L drapes perilously (and DRAMATICALLY) close to the ground. A great layer for dry days during spring and fall, or cool summer evenings, and scrunches pretty small to stuff in a bag if the day gets too warm.
