The zipper is on the right side. The zipper is plastic but made by YKK and it has worked good i just wish it had the original zipper! Hope this helps!!

What are the sleeve lengths?

Don't know the exact sleeve lengths but lm 6"1' and 176lbs, have very long arms and the medium/large size jacket, the sleeves are definitely long enough.

Should you order a size down for fit

I can only speak from experience on the 1 size that I ordered but for me medium was pretty accurate maybe even I tiny bit on the smaller size. If you were a big medium I'd recommend large. Hope that helps.
