Whitmor Over the Door Shoe Rack, Fold-up Non-slip Bars, 36 Pair, White

I just opened and put the rack together today. I do see what some of the reviews mean when they say it’s flimsy, but I don’t think this would be a problem if you put together the product correctly. I would recommend putting the rack together on hard floors, rather than carpet. The plastic makes it hard for you to put the rods in without a stable surface. Really make sure that all the rods are all the way in. Also, the hinges seemed a little big, but you can adjust them to fit your door (if it’s smaller than the hinges). However, the way the hinges are, you have to have them facing the direction the door closes in. The back of the hinges bulk outward so they will make it a little harder to close your door if you have that part in between the door and the doorframe. This is only important if you want to put your shoe rack in a specific place. I wanted the shoe rack on my room door facing inside my room, but because of the hinges, the shoe rack would’ve face on the outside of my room. I ended up just moving the shoe rack onto my closet door, but it’s something to think about. Ultimately, you could have the shoe rack facing whatever direction, but it bothers me if the door doesn’t open/close smoothly. The shoe rack also comes with these tiny but super sticky Velcro to put between the bottom of the rack and the door. I noticed that my rack didn’t sit evenly on my door (probably due to how to put it together or something), but the Velcro fixed this problem. Overall, it’s a good shoe rack if you have a lot of shoes and little space. I’ll update if it starts falling apart. Edit: it’s been about 3-4 months. The shoe rack is still holding. But just make sure you have the bottom of the rack secured to the door. The weight of your shoes will push against the door and the rack will end up lifting forwards and your shoes on the bottom shelves will fall through. I added an image showing this

I purchased the product after reading the previous reviews and viewing the pictures left along with the reviews. I also measured the product and my closet to make sure it would fit. Somw other reviewers mentioned having to remove the inside closet door knob for the product to fit, which is what I would have needed to do IF the dimensions of the product were accurate (which they are not). The over-the-door-hanger adds extra space requirements that I did not have in the closet I wanted to use. Luckily it did work with a different closet. The assembly of the product was fairly easy. I'm 9+ months pregnant and was able to put the product together without any assistance. The directions instruct you to put together an entire side before installing the rods, but I think it may have been easier to install in 3 sections prior to snapping the sections together. The most difficult part was snapping the vertical sections togeher because the plastic snaps are not identical in size, which I can't be too disappointed about since the product was not expensive. The packaging also included velcro peel-and-stick dots to attach to the 2 lowers sections to the closet that I could not use due to the recessed sections of the closet door and the product placement in the closet. I was unable to fit 36 pairs of shoes, but thanks to the other reviews, I didn’t expect to fit that many. The product currently holds 28 pairs of shoes belonging to me and my husband. Unfortunately we may have been able to fit more if the rungs started lower. My 5 inch heels fit fine, but not my 4 inch booties or my 5 inch wedges. Those shoes were placed on the second rung, making the top rung unusable. I was also unable to place my boots (flat or heeled) on a rung without being unable to use another rung, so I laid them on their side with flat flip flops taking up the other portion of the rung. This also had to be done with my husband's military-style boots. If not, the flip flops would not have fit anywhere and we would have had to store some of our shoes elsewhere. I was able to use 8 rungs for my shoes and 3 rungs for my husband's shoes. As I mentioned previously, the top rung was unable to be used due to the height of my wedges and booties. I was able to fit 3 pairs of heels across each rung for my shoes. His size 11 sneakers would only allow 2 pairs on each rung. Again, I optimized space by laying his boots sideways and filling the remaining space with his flip-flops. His dress shoes are quite heavy, and after several minutes of being on the rung, the rod popped out of place and the shoes fell on the floor. When I assembled the product, there wasn’t any way to tell if the rod was in place securely. I recommend putting heavier shoes on the bottom in case the rod becomes dislodged, so you will only have to put a few pairs of shoes back in place. A different review indicated the man's shoes fell from several rungs, which I'm assuming was from a similar problem. Overall, I recommend the product. UPDATE: My husband opened the closet door and 2/3 of the shoes fell off the rack. This had happened repeatedly.

Decent shoe rack that we converted into a wall mount. I don't suggest using it hanging over the door. It swings too much and makes a loud bang. On top of that, the shoe rack isn't that sturdy and will come apart. Once it's mounted on the wall, it has some more stability and seems to hold up okay. I put some shoes on it, and it has only broke one time. My husband was able to fix it easily. Another thing to note, my husband wears size 13 shoes and his shoes will not fit on the rack. Made for smaller shoes. I wear a size 6 and all my shoes fit perfectly. I can easily get 2 shoes on a row, sometimes 3! **UPDATE** I'm updating my review from 3 stars to 5 stars because I haven't been able to find another good shoe rack for the price and function. Yes, the material is a little cheap, but it's held up during my move from my previous home to current home, and it still works great! Everyone asks me where it's from, and they are always so blown away when I tell them it only cost me $20 bucks! I like that the shoe rack doesn't sit on the floor because it makes cleaning so much easier. I don't have to bend to get under it when I'm sweeping or move it. It definitely keeps my front entry doorway less cluttered and organized. Yes, it's not the best looking solution, but it works!

I purchased this rack to go on the back of my front door. Everyone takes off their shoes at the door since we live in a rural area. With 8 people living in our house, there seemed to be a never-ending pile of shoes at our door. I ended up using it on another door since it wouldn't fit on the back of my front door. I had hoped to have it hide behind...oh well. Cons: Every.last.piece. must be assembled. The poles into the slots, the three sections, the hooks. It really isn't a big deal, but wasn't expecting a project straight away. I handed the box to my older boys and had them do it while they were watching a tv show. Not a huge deal. The hooks don't fit over my exterior door. If you're using this for a closet, you won't even need to worry. The hooks are made of plastic so they won't even bend to accommodate the 1/16" difference. There is nothing to hold the poles in, so the rods will constantly fall out if you aren't careful. UPDATE: put E500 glue in the holes where the poles go and reinserted poles. No more problems. This is now a very sturdy holder! I really like it and am giving another star. If they would include the glue in the box, this would be a 5-star item. Self-explanatory assembly Note for assembly: When joining the 3 large sections, put tabs in first, line up grooves, then press firmly using one palm on each side of the column pressing with the heel of the hand until it clicks. If you don't do it just right, It won't lock all of the way and you won't get it back apart without breaking off the tabs. Not hard to do, just takes some fore-thought. Also, put the hooks over the door first, then lock the unit into hooks. This looks difficult initially, but it isn't actually difficult.

Bought this to replace one of those behind the door plastic shoe holders. Those work well for awhile but eventually the plastic will break as shoes go in and out constantly. Saw this on Amazon and thought perfect and durable, which it seems to be. Made of metal and hard plastic with shelves that move up when not in use, and down when putting shoes in. Each rack can be moved independently which is nice. Easy to put together, 8 to 10 minutes just because you snap multiple parts together but very easy. Seems like it will hold up very well. So my only gripe and to me it is significant, is it will not close when behind my closet door because the rails when extended hit the frame when trying to close the door. So even though the width is proper and hangs on my door just fine, closing my door isnt possible. Now maybe my entry closet has a smaller width than other doors. If it does it cant be by too much as it looks ordinary in size. But be careful if your plan is to hang on the inside of a door like a closet that opens outward. Many doors open to the inside like a bedroom which would be fine, but entry closets open outward. Hanging on the outside wouldn't be a problem at all but I dont want my shoe rack out in the open when people walk into my house. I'd like it hidden inside the closet. So I ended up hanging this on my garage entry door that leads from garage to utility room. No problems there and I do enter my home from the garage quite often. So while not ideal, problem solved. Really is made well. Just be careful to have enough door width to be able to close the door.

Me and my boyfriend recently moved in together and one of my main concerns was our combined shoe storage. We just installed this last week and I felt compelled to write a review because it is THE BEST shoe storage solution I have ever come across. I've tried under the bed, over the door pockets, shelves, stands, you name it... but this one is just the most organized, most logical storage ever. My small disclaimer is that me and my boyfriend use this on a coat closet door that swings outward toward us to open. The door itself is newer and standard size, and the coat closet is quite deep, giving the rack zero issues with clearance. I can imagine someone with an older home, or looking to use this in a shallower clothing closet might have issues with the racks/shoes mushing into things inside the closet. After all, the length of your shoe sits horizontally outwards from the door. But this baby holds plenty of shoes, so if you can make it work on a door or rig it to your wall like some people have done, it is worth it. Me and my boyfriend both store our seasonal shoes together on it. His larger size 11 shoes fit fine on the rungs, but obviously less fit on a rack than my size 9's. If you play a little bit of tetris the first time, you can maneuver shoes sideways or flat to really fit a huge amount. For instance, I store my flats for work all sideways and I can fit like 7 on one row. Sneakers we alternate with left shoe flat, right shoe sideways etc. Anything with a higher shaft than a women's ankle boot will require the rung above it to be pushed upward that you can see in some people's examples. I didn't actually count the total pairs ours is holding because we were so ecstatic for how well it works for us and our space, but I'm sure it's less than 36 with his size 11's taking up more room. The box supplies you with sticky velcro things to keep the bottom fitting snug against the door. I don't have an issues with it clanging against the door every time I open it-- but again, this is a relatively new and modern door so it opens smoothly with zero effort. Maybe those with doors you actually have to yank open will experience that 'ba-bump' with the rack. I really can't stress enough to just try it if behind your closet door has spare space. It's magical.

Apparently I’ve had this 4 years now which is amazing because I hate it. Seriously hate it. 1.) it holds 2.5 pairs of shoes per row. Doesn’t matter if it’s a child’s or adults. I don’t want to have one shoe on one row and the matching shoe on another. That seriously stresses me out. 2.) the stupid poles are always falling out. I’m sure glue would fix this beautifully. Why haven’t I glued it? Because I always swear I’m going to replace it and I can’t be bothered, but obviously I never do 3.) toddler shoes fall through it which is probably the only shoes I had a chance of putting 3 pairs in a row. The bars are too far apart to support both the heal and toe. 4.) when I fill the whole thing up my door sags just enough that I have to pull up for the door latch to match up and click closed so it doesn’t slowly swing back open 5.) shoes fall off all the time when I shut the door. They either fall through or a poles fall, or it swings when I shut the door and the impact when it falls back knocks them off. I seriously hate this thing. I WILL say the materials are solid and aren’t going to break (just fall apart). The design looks much better than the fabric ones. I like that the rows fold up if not in use even though I never actually use that feature, so I guess that’s a novelty. But seriously, I hate this product with a passion. Just talking about it makes me want to call my therapist. When I finally take it down, I may go Office Space on this when I finally replace it. I doubt I’d be any happier with another over-the-door shoe organizer. I’m going to go with a free standing shelf, but space is not my issue. If you are really tight on space this product is probably as good as you’re going to get. Just please, for the love of all things holy, do yourself a favor and glue the poles in :)

This is fantastic. Love it. The directions are only pictures, but really putting this together is self explanatory. Just put the poles in the holes and press together. To insure mine did not fall apart as others stated I pressed all the poles firmly in the holes, and then I laid it out on its side on the tile floor. I gently but firmly pressed down on each one. I then turned it over on the other side and gently but firmly pressed down. This seemed to lock the poles in. I then hung it on my door and was ready to place my shoes on it only to discover my closet door would not close. I have a large closet, but a small door. It is not an average door size. Measure yours first. It hung just fine, but with the racks pointed out, the door would not close. I read someone else's post that said they had the same problem. My husband used a small hand held hack saw and cut about 3 inches off each one. I had to take the rack apart for him to do this and after pressing in all the poles, I had a hard time pulling it apart, so the gentle firm press worked. I then put it all back together and was able to close the door. I was able to get 30 pairs of shoes on it even after cutting off the 3 inches. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to save room in their closet. Don't let my small closet door keep you from buying this. It was worth the effort of cutting each bar to get the door to close. Also I read where someone said their bars were sagging. I'm not sure about this because the bars are metal. If you need a shoe rack I recommend this one. Update: I've had this for 2 years. It still looks like the day I hung it on the door. No sagging poles and it has stayed together. I change my shoes out when the seasons change. I still love it! Update: over 3 years. No sagging and still Looks just like the picture. I’m thinking about ordering another one for my storage closet. I have more shoes to store!

Easy to put together and holds lots of shoes. I especially like the fact that each ‘shelf’ can be flipped up allowing for taller boots and shoes to be stored. It easily fits on a door in my storeroom and allows shoes to be easily seen/found and also allows the shoes to dry quickly. I am extremely pleased with it... it has solved the messy pile of shoes in the hallway problem!

Esta bonito, fácil de armar, a mí me quedó bien porque no tengo los 36 pares, pero en caso de que alguien si los tenga, les faltará espacio, creo que para que los zapatos queden bien (sin estar encimados) es de 30 pares máximo. Me gustó mucho que se pueda ajustar el tamaño del espacio para las botas por ejemplo.

It was quick to assemble: I layed all the components on the living room carpet, assembled one side, added the poles, then ajusted and pressed down the second side. It is obvious that it can crack easily, so add extra care. But once installed, it doesn't show any sign of falling apart. It is quite stable on the door, which I am even able to close shut (I was afraid it wouldn't). All my heels fit well on it! Even have extra room to buy a few more ;P note: sorry for the picture on the wrong side, Amazon puts it this way when I upload it. Oct. 2018 update: nothing changed, still standing like day 1!
