Simple and Effective
I have used this sharpener recently on a hatchet, Cold Steel Bolo Machete , regular machete, and Cold Steel Javelin spear. The hatchet took some patience, but it managed to put a very sharp edge on the blade after a while. The plastic housing for the sharpening wheels does not allow a curved edge to be sharpened easily, but with a little work, the blade is now sharp. Where it really came into its usefulness was sharpening the spear and regular machete. It works best while drawing a long, flat blade horizontally across the sharpening wheels. I had a sharp spear in no time, without using a file. It makes a perfect bevel along the blade and negates the use of a file, thus saving metal on the blade. This is a great tool for a very reasonable price. At that price, buy a few and keep one in reserve.

Superb sharpener for Fiskar's axe
This is a very basic but extremely well functioning axe sharpener. To address one common complaint: Yes, it cuts the plastic to either side of the "cutting" wheel. So what? The plastic will groove over time and it will stop doing that. When I first took my Fiskar's to it, I had recently completed chopping about 1 cord of hardwood (axe, ironwood, maple). The blade had numerous dents in its edge and was fairly beat up, though still sharp overall. After about 20 passes (1-2 minutes) back and forth through this sharpener, the edge had no dent and appeared quite sharp. Cut very well. This may not make the best knife sharpener or be suitable for things with a bigger wedge before the edge, but it's a great sharpener for the fiskars axe!

Cheapo greatness!
Holy crapsicle! (That's a frozen turd on a stick). And that is exactly what you might think you bought when you remove this janky, Chinese-made piece of plastic from the box. It feels like a $2 item at best. Or maybe a child's toy. Or... Idk. I've purchased tools that came in packaging less flimsy than this. All that being said, the little ceramic wheels contained within are amazing! Why four stars? I have no choice! While I wouldn't want to accidentally sit on the darn thing for fear of breaking it, I have to respect it's capability! I took my mildly dull axe and ran it back and forth on the wheels five or six times using only the weight of the axe for force. I then checked the blade and was amazed at how sharp it was. I promptly repeated this five-second process and checked again. Holy...! Being fully astonished I checked the blade against my arm hair. It shaves! Sharp! Very sharp! Not razor sharp. More like quality, American-made pocket knife with a factory edge sharp! Significantly more sharp than an axe needs to be, but I'm not complaining. Plasticky as it is. I see no reason it won't last, as long as it isn't treated like tools on a jobsite. Wet stones, diamond hones and files be damned! This thing has your angle and edge without effort. I recommend getting one if you are a lazy sharpener like I am!

A Good Product Use Carefully
Appears durable, the plastic is very solid. It's a good shade of black, premium appearance. When sharpening, this sharpener is very stable. Made in a way that is very easy and steady to grip, but also very light too. Do not sharpen kitchen knives with it. I put two different knives through it and both came out with dings, a kind of missing spot in the blade that was not there before. A real shame... The one who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love. [He is the originator of love, and it is an enduring attribute of His nature.] 1 John 4:8 AMP For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 NIV for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God Romans 3:23 NIV And I give them eternal life, and they will never, ever [by any means] perish; and no one will ever snatch them out of My hand. John 10:28 AMP Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire. Revelation 20:15 NIV Then these [unbelieving people] will go away into eternal (unending) punishment, but those who are righteous and in right standing with God [will go, by His remarkable grace] into eternal (unending) life.” Matthew 25:46 AMP

Good for sharpenening, bad quality.
When it comes to the sharpening of this product it does a fairly decent job. I got it to sharpen a cheap hatchet and it seems to do a fairly decent job of that. However, when I received it in the shipping box the plastic hinge was broken off and the top plastic piece where the blade goes through was laying in the bottom of the box. Is this necessarily Fiskars fault? No. Am I saying this product is high quality? No. I feel as though the cheap hinge would have broken off at some point if it wouldn't have in the box. But, I don't feel like dealing with all the return and replace annoyance so I'll just superglue the plastic piece on and use it until I feel it's useless anymore. Basically, you get what you pay for. This is a cheap sharpener that will do a decent job sharpening things like axes and hatchets. But it's just not that high of quality in terms of the hinge put on for "easy cleaning". My advice to Fiskars. Put on a metal hinge and charge another dollar. Overall. If you just need something cheap to sharpen every once in a while, this will do. If you need to sharpen axes and hatches regularly, spend a little money for something of better quality.

Chintzy garbage that is terrible for sharpening axes and hatchets.
Cheap garbage. They could make it SO MUCH higher quality with so little material... you can't see it from this angle, but the underside of this thing is entirely hollow underneath. There's no "bottom" on it, and there's not any reinforcement either; you can squeeze the bottom of the sides and flex them with minimal effort. And the ceramic sharpening wheel has no bushings/bearings on the "axle" to enable it to withstand long-term use. It's TERRIBLE for sharpening axes and hatchets. Thicker axes won't fit in it at all. And even if your axe/hatchet is thin, you have to rotate your axe to line up right with the sharpening wheel, which is awkward at best. If you need to sharpen a hatchet or axe, use the carbide tool that pulls across the blade instead of trying to pull an axe blade across this chintzy little gadget. It works fine for sharpening a machete, but only if you want a fairly blunt blade edge with no beveling. Otherwise a wheel-style kitchen knife sharpener would do a much better job - and would provide a much-stronger beveled edge. I really like the IDEA of using a wheel instead of a simple carbide "V". But Fiskars needs to redesign this into a rigid, handheld, "pull-across", diamond-wheel sharpener instead of a thin plastic, stationary, ceramic wheel.

Works great
Best/easiest knife sharpener I've ever owned. Use one at home for sharpening my friskars axe and knives and one at work for the kitchen knives and everyone loves it. Not sure why this thing isn't rated better than it is. I saw some comments referring to how it won't accept most axes and mauls. First, this isn't even advertised as a maul sharpener. Second, it accepts the friskars splitting axe perfectly fine, as I've used it multiple times and it always gets the cutting edge super sharp. The ease of use is phenomenal. I've tried other sharpeners in this price range and they all feel "weird", unsafe, require you to sharpen on a weird angle with your hand super close to the sharpening action, etc. This one, you simply glide the knife/axe, whatever through the wheel, back and fourth, and done. I also like the handy raised edge that blocks your hand from a "slip". People are right, it may not sharpen, ALL axes. But I specifically bought this to sharpen my highly recommended and rated Friskars axe.

Buena compra.

Rather spend more on Fiskar's X-sharpe range of sharpeners
Not very well made, does not perform as it is expected from Fiskar product- Cannot be use to sharpen Axe's and other garden tools that require sharpening.
