Why can't it be used for sleeping?

This absorbs sweat amazingly well. I sweat a lot and there appears to be a saturation point where it becomes fully saturated so it will then get a hat wet from sweat if wearing one. It should not be covered up since it breathes due to the semi-porous material. Similarly, I would think that it would be okay to wear for sleeping (I never thought of that and may try that myself now since I always sleep with a pillow over my head) but if you sweat a lot, it is semi-porous as mentioned and breathable so it may get the pillow or bed wet eventually unless you don't have your head covered like me. That is my take. Hope this helps. It is a great product due to its sweat absorption and breathability.

Could this be worn like a headband, hanging on neck to protect from the sun?

Yes, it can be worn as a headband and would prevent direct exposure around the neck not sure how much protection over a long period of time though.

How is this worn? The measurements listed are very small to fit around someone's head and tie: Product Dimensions: 0.2 x 6.5 x 5 inches.

Its ties around your head like a regular bandana. I belive the 0.2 is for the dri weat portion in front and then the rest is like a mesh dry weave. I brought 5 of them because tgey actual capture the sweat
