Salomon Men's X Ultra 4 Sneaker

Lovely looking boots, relatively lightweight, but very narrow, which I quite like as it holds your foot in place. The issue is that they are not waterproof in the slightest. Even just brushing against wet grass results in wet feet. It doesn't have to be a prolonged exposure to the wet either, just a glancing brush against a wet surface of some kind against the uppers. Not cheap either!!

So I had a different pair of walking shoes before this pair. Lasted over 2 years of near constant use. Then I got a pair of these for walking home after work (super easy compared to the last pairs life) and within 5 months back of the heal has started to give out and the quick laces have snapped. £10 each to replace. So bare that in mind when you buy these.

I have had these for 6 months now and its mixed. Positive: comfortable and light weight. Done many long walks (mainly on soft or sandy soils) with no discomfort. Light enough to "jog" for short distances. Negatives: absolutely useless when its wet. A little rain is OK - but if you are encountering puddles and streams or wet grass and bushes then you are going to have wet feet. One seems worse than the other for some reason. So bottom line: great summer boots or frozen winter - but will leave you wet if its damp.

Paid serious money for these to use as a mountain biking shoe because of the quicklace system. The Goretex and general weatherproof vibe were also big selling points. All very funky and impressive until it actually rained. Ten minutes of standard Scottish shower, and these things were soaked through. I could have paid literally a fraction of the price for a cheap pair of similar from one of several high Street "outdoor" shops for the same result. A shameful rip off by Salomon, who's gear I once rated. And no disrespect to the nation involved, but as a hiking friend of mine once opined "if the footwear isnt made in Italy or Austria, it'll be likely from Vietnam or similar, in which case, don't waste your money". Guess where these were made? As I said, a good old fashioned 100% rip off. Shame on you Salomon.

Within a month of light to moderate use the shoes are tearing at the seems. This has compromised the waterproofing. Big fan of the brand but this is very disappointing!

Bought these for a trip to Alaska. Rained the whole time we were there. This shoe was fantastic. Comfortable. My feet stayed completely dry. Had great traction as well. My wife bought the same pair. Highly recommend.
