Almost perfect
The receptacle build quality is very good. Solidly built and firm mount with or without faceplate. The plug is ok. As others have said, it's not going to be fully waterproof, although splashproof.....maybe. My concern when wiring the plug was where the soldered wire from the positive contact goes to led indicator. It crosses over the ground contact and there is a sleeve to prevent shorting the two. But the sleeve was a tad short so just didn't feel reliable. So I pulled the entire assembly out (fairly easy) and added additional insulation in the form of shrink tubing (see photo)....and did that to both sides. I'm sure it's fine without but I wanted the peace of mind to not have this plug short out if things shifted at some point. As mention, don't get confused by the red paint on the spring contact. For cigarette plugs the positive is always the center contact, NOT the sides. So positive wire should go into the hole on the standoff (hex nut looking thing). And again, be sure to only trim the positive wire enough to make contact cause you don't exposed wire accidentally shorting against the side springs, hence why I just added shrink tubing to take care of that. Finally the plug will work with standard cigarette sockets but the weather seal ring means you might need to give it a firm push to make contact. Otherwise just take the ring off.

very well made, very poor instructions
Marinco builds a quality product. Unfortunately, this particular device leaves it entirely to the consumer to figure out how first to disassemble the plug and second, how to correctly wire it. Neither are intuitive and there are absolutely NO instructions.

Poor instructions, works well when setup correctly
As others have stated, the instructions say one way to connect the wiring, and the big red paint spot (which usually means the positive contact goes here) says something completely different. I don't remember how I initially tried to connect it, but it was wrong. I believe I tried to connect the positive wire to the terminal painted red, when my fish finder didn't turn on, I pulled it apart and reversed the connections and it worked just fine. Once it's setup correctly, it works just fine - the connection is tight and the mount is good.

Good quality
As others have said, this seems to be a quality product. Plastic, but heavy grade. One thing to note: To unlock the plug takes a pretty strong twist. Unless you make your mounting hole flat on the sides like the receptacle, you will likely twist the whole assembly until it loosens in the mount.

Great Product
I have not installed them but they just feel right !They are well done - If (and only then) used with the matching plug, they are in a different league when compared with you standard 12V socket. The [old] standard plugs, when used with my computer charger, got burned up pretty good around the pin area. Only time will tell how the new ones will hold up ...but it sure looks promising.I'll replace all my boat 12V sockets with this model this fall.

hard to wire
You need to have the dexterity of a brain surgeon in order to get the wires inside. The original Marinco ones are a bit better but the cheaper knock offs are very hard to wire.

The only 12 volt plug you should ever buy
I really hate cigarette lighter plugs but this one is by far the best one out there. The twist lock feature is a must. I use this plug for my onboard fridge mounted in the cargo area of my truck.

Cheap Chinese Rubbish.
Looks really good but just isn't.Although made to look very weather proof with an O-ring around the plug and a snug-fitting blank for the socket, underneath these are cheaply made Chinese rubbish that just doesn't work. It's simply impossible to get good, reliable electrical connectivity between the plug and socket. The problem seems to be the contacts which are manufactured from that horrid heavily chromed stuff they knock out in Shanghai.Massively over-priced, unreliable, and now in the bin.
