Would recommend with the SLV-D261P
Controller is very workable. Used with a Sony SLV-D261P DVD/VHS player, and most of the buttons work well. The only button that doesn't actually do the listed function is the power button. It doesn't turn on either the player or the TV. Beyond that, the remote is durable and works consistently. Would recommend for anyone working with this Sony player.

Great remote at a cheap price
Works great, easy to plug and play with some batteries. No problems here!

Shop around
Its huge. It doesn't turn the vcr/dvd player on, but once I turn it on, all of the other features seem to work, but the most important thing is turning the machine on...and it doesn't:-(

Mostly good copy of SONY remote
This "replacement remote" works with all the VCR/DVD functions I've tried on three SONY "combo" units, SLV-D201P, SLV-D281P and SLV-D370P. The "no buttons pressed" current draw from the batteries is low at under 2 uA, the button action is good, the operating range about the same as the original and the build quality quite decent, especially for the asking price. However, there are issues with the implementation of TV mode that affect "normal" DVD/VCR operation. When first tried the remote I thought it wasn't working, since the combo unit didn't respond to the Power button. This happened because the remote comes up in "TV" mode when batteries are first inserted, so the "DVD-VIDEO" button must be pressed to use all of the player/VCR commands. Some of these commands are still active when the remote is in TV mode, which might explain reviews claiming that not all functions work. It only takes a momentary disconnect of the batteries to bring up TV mode, which can happen if the remote is dropped even a short distance, causing apparent "failure" of the device. The original SONY remote has an indicating mode selector with non-volatile electro-mechanical memory (also known as a "slide switch") instead of two momentary buttons. Further, the "replacement remote" puts the "TV" mode selection button in the upper-left corner, where the "eject" button is located on the original remote. Of lesser importance, TV mode on the original SONY RMT-V504A could be set to work with television brands other than SONY, using 2-digit codes found in the Operating Instructions manual for the later models, such as the SLV-D370P. This "replacement remote" doesn't have that capability, so it is like the earlier RMT-V501A. But the TV functions are limited in number, and not all of them work properly with the "other brands" so this isn't much of a loss. This is a good replacement, and was especially appreciated when my original RMT-V504A was hiding somewhere, as remotes often do. The layout is nearly the same, aside from the eject and mode buttons, and while SONY managed to make some functions a little difficult to find, those familiar with the original should have no trouble with this "replacement remote."

Works with Sony SLVโD380P, but Not a Universal TV Remote
This remote works with my Sony SLVโD380P DVD/VHS combo player. I have the combo player connected to a Samsung TV. The remote did not come with instructions, and I tried to see if it could also control my Samsung TV. However, based on my research, it appears that the remote cannot control the TV unless it is a Sony model.

Perfect! Just what I needed
As someone who doesn't like to change what's working this is fabulous. My player was working fine but the remote failed; even after a battery change. I was happy that this was still available and thrilled it looked so much like my old remote. I just had to put the batteries in and things worked fine.
