It's a TANK
For a sub $20 knife, this is the best buy. SK 5 is a Japanese high carbon, easy to sharpen, holds an edge, relatively tough. It's a one piece construction so it has no weak spot to break. This design has a "belly" for skinning if needed. For cold weather and better grips, I wrapped it in an inner tube. Nothing to dislike about this knife.

Impressive for the Price
This is pretty exceptional for a $20 knife. I used it to make a spear and it turned out great. I wasn't very impressed with the factory edge but I was able to get it shaving sharp with little effort

Must have for a BOB.
A true survival tool. A must have in your BOB (bug out bag). These won't replace a traditional knife, but this one is light weight, sturdy, inexpensive, and it is a knife that can be made into a spear. I don't usually care for plastic knife sheaths but this one is well designed, sturdy, and safe. Again: low cost, well made, versatile.

TOP TIER!
This spear came 2 days early, which is AWESOME! Right out of the box this weapon comes "paper cutting" sharp! The weight is perfect! The steel is very sharp! For under $25 this is a STEAL! Whoever marked this outstanding spear for under $50 should be fired! I would gladly pay DOUBLE what I paid, for this quality of spear! I will gladly but a 2nd one of these, for my wife! I am a avid surrivalist and a good, reliable spear, is as important as a good, reliable knife! GET THIS SPEAR! I gladly would give this weapon 10 ☆!

Effing Awesome!!!
This knife is truly amazing! I'm so glad I pulled the trigger. Super solid construction, classic bowie lines, uber tough steel (watch the testing vids, unreal), nice solid sheath, paper slicing sharp out of the box, Plus a little ferro rod, for $20!?!? Yesss! This knife fulfills all the ridiculous knife fantasies you didn't even know you had lol. Cold Steel backs it's badass look and cool minimal design with truly tough, durable construction. You can throw it, chop wood with it, use it in the kitchen, store stuff in the handle, and also turn it into a freaking spear!! Maybe do a little wild boar hunting next weekend, huh? ;) Very fun to throw, both as a knife and a spear. So cool.. I also really like how it is designed to be modified. It allows the owner to customize it to their liking, and encourages you to make it your own. I'm going to carve a curved wooden knob for the end to extend the reach, and to have a heel for chopping brush better. Over time I'll probably whittle up 3 or 4 different handle versions that I can swap out, depending on what I want it for that day. **(That said- If you don't feel like doing any mods and just want a blade ready to go, you might not like this knife as much. The handle, as is, is a little slick, and the end is a little rough/edgy for stabbing. Hand can slide forward if not careful.) Conclusion- This is one of the best, most solid, durable, functional and straight up FUN (and large!) all round use knives I've ever gotten for $20 bucks. Totally worth it. I'm very pleased with my purchase, to say the least.

Old Faithful
Update -- downgraded to three stars because I ordered a new one after my scout pack got stolen... the newer ones are not as heavy duty, very disappointing. Overall I would still recommend it, it's just sad how much the quality has gone down over the years. (June 2025) I have tested lot of knives, this one has got to be one of the best performers I've ever had. It has chopped right through wood and limbs that have chipped or rolled other knives. Everything in the woods should fear this knife. You CAN throw it, and I have. I have seen pictures of some of them snapping when used as a spear... I believe it. I think throwing a knife is already a very hard use of it, not sure I would trust this as a spear against anything other than animals (hunting), it's not thick enough to use as a throwing spear against wood... too much lateral pressure on the blade when you hit. If you use it as a knife, even a throwing knife, it'll probably last forever. Just be careful because this spring steel can "bounce back" if you have a bad throw (only happened to me once). If you buy it, you'll love it. I don't go out into the woods without mine, for real.

Schnitzen ist also wirklich kein Problem. Die vorherigen Befürchtungen waren also unberechtigt. Klare Kaufempfehlung.

Perfect all around knife especially for a the price
PROS: For $20 bucks on sale and even at $30, the price is very good. This feels like a $100 knife Heavy enough for durability, light enough for comfortability. Versatile knife thay can be used for anything on top of being able to use it as spear due to the hollow handle. Good for recreational spear throwing or as a defensive tool in the woods against bears and mountain lions. VERY SHARP from the box. Be careful. Many people have cut themselves or lost fingers based on amazon and youtube comments. It’s REALLY SHARP. Very high quality. Thin metal compared to the original 90’s version but still good quality. Watch youtube videos about its durability test. Many people have these knife for decades and it’s still functioning. High quality kydex sheath. Fierro rod is included. Even the box looks good, makes it perfect as a gift or collector’s item. CONS: The kydex sheath, while good durable quality, has a case of too much retention. The retention on the sheath is so tight that it takes a bit of effort to remove the knife from it, which is how people get cut . I think it should have just came with a cheap faux leather or nylon sheath, or same sheath but more forgiving retention. CONCLUSION: You will not find a better price under $100 that will give you more versatility and quality than this. Highly recommend it. This is a classic staple knife that should be included along the names of a buck 119/120. If a known brand released this for $150, people would still rush to buy it. Cold steel you should send me something to review 😏

Great knife!
Used this blade for a five day trip. I used it for fine work like feather sticks, steaks and also chopped smaller trees down with it (2" and smaller) batoned large logs, tossed it at trees and also made a shaft to throw it at a old stump a few times. The blade held up great, was sharp out of the box. I was aware that the ferro red pulled out from the handle and that the coating on the blade wouldn't allow it to strike the ferro rod anyway. I pulled the rod out of the handle, and then gorilla glued it back in. Also used a file to sharpen a shall portion of the spine to a sharp 90 degrees removing the coating at the same time. All the small issues everyone complains s about with this blade were fixed in under 10 min. And the guy who says it chips easy, not sure what he is talking about, I'm in Canada aswell and abused the crap out of this blade, it's no worse for wear. Just buy it! Shipping was also early, would buy from seller again.
