MUCH better than I'd expected!
I'd read some negative reviews that worried me when I initially purchased the Okapi, but now that I have it, I love it. It's definitely not a Chinese knockoff, real cherry wood, carbon steel, very sharp out of the box, polished finish, tight blade joint, and the ratcheting mechanism feels stronger than I'd anticipated. It even came with oil in the blade joint! Great quality and a lot of care for such a cheap knife!

Disappointing
Although an interesting piece. The knife won't take or hold an edge. Disappointed

What you need to know
So my husband loves the knife now but he had to put his own edge on it. He said it was a pain to do the edge but once it was done it was easier to sharpen. He uses this knife for EVERYTHING

Value
The absolute best low dollar everyday carry knife. I have beaten and used this and sharpened it over and over. I have many different really nice great quality knives, this is one of three I carry the most.

Sending it back..
I've wanted an Okapi for a long time, for the price and Prime I figured you couldn't miss. Turns out...you could miss.A lot of the reviews comment about the fit and finish of the knife. There weren't any issues as far as I was concerned and I tend to like workman quality tools. I'm not metallurgist but there is something wrong with this steel and that's unforgivable. After 2 straight hours trying to set a new bevel with DMT diamond stones I was unable to raise a burr. Stroking the edge with a red sharpie I was able to verify that the edge was literally disintegrating as it was made. After 10 minutes all of the marker was gone and the edge was still like a butter knife. I sharpened at the same angle that I use for my Douk Douks. Figuring I was just asking too much and adjusted to set a steeper secondary bevel. No dice. It just won't hold an edge.Probably the first knife I ever gave up on. I can't really recall, but I've certainly never ever had this kind of difficulty with carbon steel. So it's going back and I'm frankly heart broken.

I recommend it. Its definitely not a Spiderco
I have been meaning to get this knife for quite a while. I have a few knives that I consider to be in this category that are a must have for collectors. The Douk Douk, K55k cat knife, Opinel 8, Higonokami, and this one. And having been to South Africa, I really wish I would have purchased it there. It is remarkably sharp out of the box. Sharpens up a bit more. It is carbon steel after all. I recommend it. Its definitely not a Spiderco, or a Case or something high end like that. But it certainly has a lot of character. And for the price you cant beat it.

Really cool knife
This is a really cool knife but it is rough. Closing the blade is crazy sketchy…but that is part of the appeal of the knife.
