The transfer switch forces one to shut off the main to the grid and flip the 50A breaker on. He also installed a 50A twist connector outside on the house. I ordered a 50A cable to connect the generator to the house. If the load on the generator doesn’t exceed 50A, one might be able to run the A/C. My A/C is on 30A breaker. I would switch off unnecessary items and slowly switch on items that are needed, like the refrigerator, internet, lamps, etc. I wouldn’t try my electric stove since it’s on a 50A breaker. **Q: 12500w have a pull start?** A: There are three options to start the Westinghouse 12500 portable generator. Singe there is a battery, there is an electric start button and a remote key fob start in addition to the pull start. **Q: Is this a full sine wave generator?** A: Bill this is a "regular" generator so it is not a full (clean) sine wave generator. "A regular gas generators cannot produce a "clean" sine wave because they change speeds slightly during operation. When the speed changes, the wave changes slightly. It started right up on the first try using the electric start button and first try using the remote. The remote worked extremely well and will come in very handy. Another nice surprise was all the printed information that gave detailed instructions, and descriptions. The generator came with a funnel, quart of oil, and all tools needed. The large size wheels were easy to mount as were the feet. Although the generator is heavy it was fairly easy to maneuver with the large wheels. We are in our 80's and thought we would have an issue moving it around but did not! So far we are very pleased with out purchase and based on the above info would recommend this generator. Hopefully it will provide extremely good service in the years to come. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Bonus *by on Reviewed in the United States December 24, 2023* This is a really nice generator.Setup was simple for someone even with the slightest mechanical inclination.The quick start instruction manual neglected to mention that the battery cable is disconnected. After going through the quick start manual, I hit start at the end and nothing happened. Only after thinking about it for a little bit, I remembered a previous commenter mentioning that the cable connection needed to be connected and wallah! It started on the first press of the button. I have since gone through over 48 hours of power outages and it has been able to run my entire house, including a 5 Ton heat pump I use to heat my home. During both power outages the outdoor temperature was below 32 degrees F, and ran nearly continuously. It is an inverter heat pump, so it's gentle on startup. I was also able to take a shower and run my electric oven to cook a pizza at 450 degrees. It didn't struggle even in the slightest. It's as noisy as you would expect for a generator this size. I wasn't shocked at it's noise level and neither should you. I was expecting it to be larger, but it's still large and heavy, but smaller than I was expecting. It rolls out of my garage easily with the supplied handle. I wouldn't expect grandma to be able to roll it out with ease, but if she was determined enough, she could do it. I highly recommend this generator. I wouldn't go out and buy anything more expensive that has the same output. Just buy it and you won't be dissapppointed. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent generator *by on Reviewed in the United States February 11, 2026* I received this generator today. I have had a Generac 3250 generator for 14 years and replaced it with the Westinghouse 9500C. I was surprised that this generator is about the same size as the old Generac, which was only 1/3rd the power. This generator is better built than the Generac. For example, the handle is much bigger and more secure, the tires are more than 3X the size and are MUCH better attached, and it has battery operated starting. I was pleasantly surprised that it was very easy to set up and run. It is a bit loud, but that should be expected for a powerful generator. This generator is also easy to move about.
