So far so good
I hadn’t initially realised the watch was coming from the US. Some reviewers had said their packages arrived damaged, mine was absolutely perfect on arrival, despite it only being in a flimsy envelope. Following tracking, it took days to travel across the states but I received it in a day once it cleared customs in the UK. Three days ahead of the date I was given. Well done the post office! The watch itself is quite chunky. Feels solid and sturdy. After a couple of weeks it’s keeping perfect time. The strap looks ok but isn’t that comfortable, perhaps it’s still a bit stiff. The illumination only lasts momentarily. The face is clean and crisp but the second hand is almost impossible to see as it’s the same colour as the background. I like the solar power aspect of the watch, it seems to be working with no effort to keep it in the sun. I just hope it lasts as long as my first Timex watch. That is 53 years old and still running perfectly.

Good
Has worked flawlessly since I got it. Excellent time keeping, comfortable (although I did change the strap to a more subdued darker brown leather) and great value for money. A few people have commented on how nice it looks ... and one of them even went and bought one for himself. (He also changed the strap as soon as he got it!)

A few complaints, but scores well on the basics
Plenty of issues, but the good outweighed the bad. Firstly, the watch arrived with compromised packaging - which seems to be the norm, if you read the other reviews. More specifically, it had been unpacked and then put back together wrongly, so that it only had one thin layer of card protecting it. Moreover, the crystal had a layer of dried-on, scummy water on it, and the case sides were covered in smudgy fingerprints. All very odd, but it cleaned up well and I couldn't find any actual damage. Other negatives - the dark grey second hand moves across a dark grey dial, and consequently can't be seen. The body of the watch is quite chunky, approx 11.5mm deep. I'm not sure why this is necessary, as my Bering Solar watch measures at about 7.5mm. I guess the date complication needs extra space, but I'd rather lose that and have a slimmer watch. The choice of strap is also puzzling - beige with bright orange highlight threads. Why did they decide on this match-up? The dial is dark grey with pale green markers, so there is no real attempt at matching colours. In every other respect, the watch is very nice. High quality finish, and an attractive gunmetal shade. The dial design is also quite smart, although the lume appears to be minimal, showing up only on the minute and hour hands - not the markers. The leather strap, despite the colour choice, is high quality and very comfortable. The time-keeping appears fine and the crown operation feels better than most of my other watches. Overall, I am happy.

Excellent value solar-powered field watch
While not a luxury brand or one that attracts collectors and aficinados, that is why I like Timex watches. They epitomize unpretentious good value coupled with tasteful understated design. When I stumbled across the Expedition Solar, I snapped it up straightaway. I already owned a couple of basic Expedition Scouts with the wonderful Indiglo backlight and a slightly more upscale Weekender with a lovely cream dial, all of which meet my everyday needs. But the prospect of being able to avoid battery changes and battery failure when you least expect it made the purchase of this Expedition Solar a no-brainer.When I first started using this watch, I found I needed to expose it to bright sunlight for a number of hours to give it a reserve of power and avoid periodic stoppages which were occuring the first week or two I started wearing it. But since then it's worked just fine. (I make sure not to store this watch in a drawer but place it so it receives sunlight during the day.)HIghly recommended.

Great watch, awful condition packaging
The watch is great but it looks like it was kicked here from "merica", really bad.

Mixed bag
I liked the look and the idea of a solar-battery powered wrist watch.Unfortunately, it spent more time lying in the light to get charged than on my wrist. Maybe it was broken? There's no way to know. But on the ration worn/not worn it had to go back. Pity...

Very impressed with this Timex.
It is not often I leave reviews on Amazon; however, I am so impressed by this watch I feel compelled to. I was not expecting much from this Timex, I have had other more expensive watches from the brand (in the £100-£200 range). And I have not been overly impressed by the quality of them. However, I paid £41 for this Expedition and for the added benefit of solar charging also that is incredible value. I have had much more expensive Swiss automatic watches in the past and this watch is making me re-evaluate what you really need in a watch. And this one really ticks all the boxes you need. An added benefit is the leather strap is also amazing quality for the money. I have had Hamilton automatics with significantly worse straps than this. Overall, I highly recommend.

Just the job
Good quality watch for the money. Solid build, and a very substantial leather strap , made of soft pliable material, with a sturdy buckle. Solar charging, all in all, excellent value, and good to look at!.

Superb quality value watch - and strap!
I added the gunmetal expansion strap! Looks great!!! WAY better than leather:https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B07K2HYSL2/?coliid=IOIXE3FQYVP8R&colid=VW74YBA4811I&psc=1&ref_=list_c_wl_lv_ov_lig_dp_it$40CDN, but the jeweller who worked on this for me on the Expedition Solar watch said the strap is VERY high quality and nice, so I am glad that I paired it. They come in Black, Silver, Gunmetal, and Gold.Watch takes ~1h under a light to get to nominal charge from dead. Sets easily, and lume is VERY nice and lasts about 3-4h if fully charged in house. :)I recommend this watch! Reads well, easy to see without glasses, comfortable and excellent value! Recommended! Thanks!

Eye Catching !!
Genuine with successful online registration. Working very well with accurate time after wearing it for 3 weeks now. Very good quality strap, thick and very soft with smell of leather. Not heavy. Night luminance are only on the hour and minute hands and last for 2 to 3 hours after sunset depending on the strength of sunshine on that day. Fast delivery at 9 days to receive from half around the world away. Its oustanding dial design catches the attention of people who sees it! I am very happy and proud to have purchased this.
