Sticky, Stays Put, Doesn't leave residue, soft. Alien technology.
This is exactly what I wanted and expected. I've used a number of similar material products before. I recently got old enough to need driving glasses and wanted to be able to toss them recklessly on my dashboard. This bizarre material is like the skin of some alien ooze monster. The glasses stay put exactly where I put them, but picking them back up takes a little patience. It's a bit like the pad has grabbed any item it touches and one has to plan on a 1-2 second gentle pull. It survived on the dash of our car in an extremely hot summer area and at 9 months, it's performing perfectly. Cut it with a very sharp, new razor blade on a cardboard or paper-topped softwood backing so your blade can go fully through the material.

and the way it vibrated when it kicked on sounded like an elephant in heat
I had a water pump for a Coke machine set in a cabinet, and the way it vibrated when it kicked on sounded like an elephant in heat. Not really the vibe you want in a coffee shop.It works great, totally shuts down the vibration. My only issue is that over time the weight of the pump pushed its legs through the damping sheet and then it didn't really work. So basically it works great when it works, and needs replaced when it doesn't.

great isolation material
The sobothane comes in a sheet covered on both sides with removable clear plastic sheeting. It's remarkably challenging to cut in part because of the protective sheets - this stuff is soft and sticks, which is good and what I was hoping for. It's gummy quality allows it to seat between my speakers and their metal stands. It's exactly what I wanted, though perhaps a shade thicker than expected. I'd recommend cutting it with a razor, exacto or similarly very sharp knife. A bit pricey but does the trick.

Amazing!
I had hard rubber isolating pads under each of the "feed" of my washer and dryer, but the both applicances (especially the washer) still shook the house when they got going. I cut out circles of Sorbothane and put them in the circular depressions in the pads, then set the feet of the appliances on the Sorbothane - now you have to be in the same room to even know if the appliances are running. Amazing!

great for feet!
I've been using this stuff to make custom heel pads & arch supports for my shoes. The thinness & stickiness of this 10th inch, 40 duro sorbothane allows for using multiple layers in areas one needs more depth for support. It sticks to bottom of shoe well, but would stick to your feet or socks if it came in contact with them (so I put mine under a flat Spenco insole).A heel pad consisting of layer or two of this substantially reduces shock of heel strikes. And you can strategically cut out areas in the pads to reduce pronation, etc.I like my own sorbothane orthotics for my sensitive high-arched feet much better than any i've bought over the years because I can precisely fit them to each foot & each shoe. And it costs less too. You can get a lot of heel pads &, arch supports out of each sheet.

Good product, has a specific use
I bought this product to place under the legs of my air compressor. The legs cut right through the material. If the legs were flat on the bottom instead of having an edge to them, the material likely would have held up for a long time. I think that for items with a flat bottom surface area, this material would work very well to isolate vibration.

definitely decrease vibration
The 1/2 inch definitely decreases vibrations both "gross" and "micro". Does not compress greatly even under 500+ pounds of weight. Somewhat difficult to cut.

It is not that magical
I bought this pad to cushion hammer blows from a 26-oz deadblow hammer on a granite block on a workbench. Smashing things with a hammer makes a lot of noise and vibration - vibration which is transmitted through the workbench directly to the apartment below mine.WHAM! WHAM! WHAM! Yes, I am THAT neighbor. =)I had been using a bath towel folded into fourths to cushion the blows, which worked perfectly fine. This pad was a substitute for the bath towel. The pad does work, but not nearly as well as the sad-looking towel. I would say that the pad drops the "WHAM!" factor by about half. The bath towel almost totally isolates the vibration. So sad.For the price, I was expecting more magic. A 1" thick pad, or more, would probably have been a better choice for me.
