SSK M.2 to USB NVMe Enclosure USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 SSD Enclosure Adapter Reader

This case for NVMe M2 solid state drives is very well constructed, made of aluminum on the exterior and plastic on the inside where the disk is mounted. Very easy to use, you don't need any kind of tool to assemble it and install the drive inside it, assembling it was a no brainer. It's USB-C port is Gen 3.2, works at 10 Gbps, making it a great alternative for cloning a drive, as I did. The transfer time for 290GB from the internal 3rd Gen NVMe M2 drive in my Lenovo Legion 5-15ARH05 to a new Western Digital NVMe M2 N 7100 SSD, was only about only 8 minutes! That's a great time and results may vary according to the source drive and the target top speeds, size of the data to clone, file sizes, etc. The enclosure got very hot while performing the cloning task, but that's a good thing, because the aluminum body acts as a heat sink for the SSD inside. The kit includes two thermal pads to help the drive get rid of the excess heat and transfer it to the aluminum enclosure. It's recommended to stick one to the control chips of the SSD and another to other chips. It worked perfectly for me. The kit includes also 2 cables: one is a USB-A to USB-C and the other is a USB-C to USB-C cable so you can choose the one that works for you, according to the type of port available on your computer. Once I cloned the old drive I installed the new one in my laptop and the old drive inside the enclosure. I formatted the old one and it's now an external unit I'm using to save stuff I don't want in any of the drives in my laptop. Awesome and really fast to transfer tons of data between computers with ease and reliability. I conclusion: I'm very happy with my purchase and would buy again if I need for another drive. THE CONS: only one thing they could improve: the lock mechanism for the plastic part, the one that goes inside the aluminum structure has to be checked twice to make sure it's really closed and it's not getting open while working or during transport, leaving the SSD inside exposed and risking damage. Anyway, just make sure you hear a nice click when closing it and make sure it's not getting open and you'll be fine. All in all, a great product for the price, but make sure you have the right type of SSD drive for this enclosure.

A nicely built enclosure for these tiny drives. It uses USB C for the main connection and comes with cables for USB C and USB A. I like the latch system. A little slider on the front of the enclosure allows you to open and lock the box closed. This is much easier than the tiny screws that some enclosures use. I have tested these on a couple of the NVMe drives with different connectors and in all cases the enclosure allowed the drive to work. I would buy this item again.

I needed to transfer an almost full 256 GB NVMe M.2 SSD on my desktop computer to my new 1 TB NVME M.2 SSD. There were several SSD enclosures adapters to pick from. I picked the SSK enclosure mainly because of the high number of good reviews and because it included an USB-C to USB-A cable. Maybe also because of the reasonable price. Many of the other enclosures didn't include a USB-C to USB-A cable. If I had picked another enclosure, I would have had to purchased something to convert the cable to USB-A. So far, I have only done the one transfer (about 190 GB.) The transfer only took about 35 minutes. I checked the 1 TB SSD in the SSK enclosure for heat after the transfer completed - since some people mentioned the SSD in the enclosure heating-up. The 1 TB SSD was only warm. I am not planning on using the SSK enclosure on a daily basis so I cannot speak to that - how long will it last and will it be able to dissipate heat if used on a consistent basis. I am very happy it was so easy. One tip I can give. You will need to screw down the SSD in the enclosure. I had some trouble because the bolt/fastener part was sticking-up a little too high. I found that if you twist the head of the bolt a little, it fall into the plastic cut-out and everything will then fit into the case so you can close the enclosure case.

I first thought that this unit was having transfer issues when it actually turned out to be the NVMe module I was using. This item works great, I don’t think it will keep your NVMe cool though unless you have a huge amount of heat sink compound to touch the aluminum case on one side (top) only. For small file transfers that only take less than a minute to transfer. This would probably be fine, but if you’re going to do long extended transfers, I would remove the aluminum housing and use a fan. This unit transfers data at about 700Mbps on an acer T200 NVMe more than twice as fast as my Samsung T7 however it only transfers data as long as the NVMe can accept it (around 1GB), then the speed drops to the speed of your NVMe sustained write rate which is shockingly lower (about 3X slower) than the Samsung T7. The only way this device could be better is if it had a heat sink for both sides of the NVMe I kept the drive cool during long transfer rates. I would only use this for cheap slower NVMe modules and only for short periods of time perhaps a backup of small files like photos etc.

My Samsung 512 gb M.2 drive plugged into this case without a problem. The screw was a bit of a hassle to attach, but the drive fit the furthest hole from the connector. There was sufficient room to attach both heat transfer pads and fully close the case. I used this to remove some files from an SSD drive from a laptop that died onto a new laptop. All of my files and folders came up immediately and I had no issues transferring them. I kept the drive plugged in for about two hours and it did not get warm at all. I plan to store the drive in the case for future use, if needed. Due to previous reviews, I did not try the USB C cable. The USB A cable worked fine and data loading and transfer was immediate. As I already have a full size Crucial SSD for backups, I won't be using the M.2 for that purpose. I agree that the instructions are lacking, but there really isn't much to figure out before using this case.

I used a 1TB NVMe 3 capable of doing high bandwidth copies. so the limit was the enclosure. With USB 3.1 connection I was getting about 32MB/Sec. But with a USB-C on a brand new PC I was getting consistent 350MB/Sec. The case is aluminum so the heat did dissipate. Easy removal of the NVMe. I used a 1 TB NVMe but it should take higher capacities. Be sure to look at the case when closing it and line up the little lock and the slot on the inside of the case. It was not easily marked. But Dang!!!! The price was right and it worked great!!!!!

I used this as a second SSD carrier when I upgraded my Dell Latitude 5320 SSD from 512GB to 1TB. Laughably easy. My process: - I had a Wester Digital 1TB SSED to upgrade to to I first put it into this NVMe carrier so that the WD Acronys SSD migration tool would see it and allow me to create the bootable USB drive with the migration/cloning tool. - My employer had some mandatory security setting so my next job was to turn off Bitlocker, which I had to do in Safe Mode so that the stinkin' security monitor didn't just turn it straight back on again. - Then I opened the machine and took out the 512GB SSD and put it into this NVMe enclosure, and put my new 1TB SSD into the laptop. - Then a reboot of the laptop found the SSD cloning tool on the bootable USB drive and I set that off to clone my prior SSD now in this NVMe carrier to my new 1TB SSD in the laptop. Took about 25 minutes, faster than I expected. - Job done. Turned Bitlocker back on, recorded my Bitlocker key, and ran a manual TRIM command to be sure. Overall, less than an hour from start to finish. This NVMe carrier was invaluable. A very useful addition to my digital toolbox.

It loses connection every 15 minutes, regardless of the operating system or USB version 3.2.

I bought this ssd enclosure to help me clone the existing ssd in my laptop to a bigger ssd. This enclosure comes with great detailed instructions. There are also many YouTube videos that detail the process. I like the size and look of the device. It comes with both a USB C to USB C cable and and USB to USB C cable. It also comes with 2 thermal pads which are handy. Build quality is great and the device performs well, I now have a spare external ssd and was able to easily install my new ssd. I'm very pleased.
