Will this vise work to hold wood horizontally?

Yes. it would depend on the width of the wood. a thin piece would easily fit inside the jaws (you seem to be looking at the 8" package - so subtract the thickness of the nuts/washers and the wooden jaws you make - so maybe a 4" wide pice of wood would be able to be held securely. you could also drill a dog hole in the front jaw and match it w/ a hole in your bench. in that case, your wood could be of virtually any width and held securly.

I recieved the kit but without instructions as described, how do I get the instructions??

YouTube has excellent videos. Just google Moxon Vise Instructions. I watched the one where a young lady goes through the steps.
