I powered up the switch and paired it with the Aqara hub before final installation, pairing failed the first time for some unknown reason, but worked on the second attempt. I only use one of the switches to control the main ceiling light, the second switch is left unconnected but used (via HomeAssistant) to control the bedside lights. To do this install two switches, the first one physically attached to the wiring and light fitting and the other either mains powered(but not connected to light) or one of the cheaper battery powered ones, which is not connected to the mains lighting circuit.
