Is this knife for protection, or can it actually be used to cut things (say, branches, etc. in the woods)?

They make Kaiser blades and machetes for cutting branches. A knife 10 inches in length or shorter is made for spilling guts not cutting limbs. It is not of any value if someone takes it from you and cute you up with it because you do not know what you’re doing. Hope that helps

Will it come with both ankle wrap and belt mount?

It comes in the belt mount . The ankle strap is included along with extra screws to mount on ankle wrap .

Is this knife supposed to be sharp when you get it? I tried to cut arm hair and nothing. I tried to slice through paper and it doesnt slice.

Well in my opinion all knives should be sharp when new. I don't expect it to be a razor but it's always nice if it is. This knife that I got was dull to the point it was dangerous to use. Had to hack or dig at anything I wanted cut. Used a whet stone on it to get it where I think is accepttable.
