GOOD, BUT MISLEADING
Product Features:"Exclusive,PercView knob made of glass."....WRONG!...made of plastic. The knob, which is threaded on, comes loose and lifts off, because there is no internal or external collar to fasten it in place. Remember to keep on low heat while percolating in order to prevent coffee from spilling through the loose knob.

Perfect Pot!
About a year ago I bought yet another electric drip coffeemaker, to replace the third or fourth one that had failed in the previous few years. This time, said I to myself, I'll spend the big bucks and get a really good coffeemaker, one that will make nice hot coffee and one that will last. Just over 12 months later, it was dead and on its way to its final resting place in the local landfill. Then I got smart and bought this classic stovetop percolator (12-cup model). WOW! Really delicious, rich and full-bodied, blisteringly hot, delightful coffee every time from a coffeepot that will last longer than I will. This rugged percolator is good to look at, beautifully made, easy to clean. The fact that the bubbletop is a plastic (Lexan resin) which is tougher than nails and well-nigh unbreakable is a plus, since I remember how easy it was to break the old glass bubbletops. And the silicone handle does stay quite cool. Altogether, this pot is even better than advertised. PERFECT POT if you're tired of wasting time and money on electric coffeemakers. And don't believe all the nonsense about percolator coffee being bitter or boiled. Use it properly and you'll make truly tasty coffee, just as mild or as strong as you like it.

Very pleased
We purchased this percolator to use while tent camping in conjunction with our Coleman gas stove. We previously used a Coleman stove top drip coffee maker but after several years the bottom burned out. We considered a less expensive aluminum percolator but opted for the GSI stainless version. We just returned from a 2 week camping trip to Maine & made coffee every day. I had experimented with it at home over our gas range to be sure I knew what I was doing. We tent camped the whole time so coffee is likely the most enjoyed luxeries along with an air mattress. I told my wife at least 6 times that this was a very good purchase. Here are some things you may want to know about this percolator if you purchase one. I also bought the paper filters (White Wrap Coffee Filters by Melitta 627402) on ebay as I don't like grounds in my coffee. They were a bit pricey but they slipped down over the center post and after putting in the coffee you fold the excess paper down in over the top of the grounds and it made a nice pocket that held them in nicely. I think I will try using the flat bottom type filter used with drip makers that is purchased in a grocery store in the future and just punch a hole in the bottom. Next - Its a stove top unit so as long as you keep it over the heat it will perk, unlike some reviews that I read that said when its done it stops perking. I don't believe they even used their percolator before writing the review. Next -The instructions say to perk for 3 minutes and no longer. I thought maybe longer would make it better or stronger but not so. Perking longer we found made it "bitter" as it boiled the perked coffee longer. We found that 4 minutes worked well though. To make it stronger one would just need to use more coffee. I also found that as soon as the water began to perk I turned down the flame so as to lower the perking temp. After it begins perking you are also boiling the perked coffee so I found this helped in making a better brew. After reading reviews about people breaking the small clear tops, I also purchased an extra Resin Top for the lid in case the original broke or something so we still could make coffee. The original was also a resin top and we had no problems so I didn't need the spare on this trip. I will also say that due to expansion and contraction that the resin top when cold doesn't fit tight and will fall out, however when hot (due to expansion) it fit snug. I learned after several times of dropping the top in the dirt when rinsing out the pot to keep my finger pressed against the top to keep it in place. Next - The bottom of the pot is very heavy made and the handle has an insulated grip that allows it to be handled without a pot holder. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend this as a lifelong purchase. Our camp stove is 33 years old & I had to believe this will last as long as our camp stove has lasted as well.

Too Good for Just Camping
I wanted a good camp coffee pot and after looking at a lot of candidates in local stores and reviewing what others said online about competing items I decided this was probably a good choice. And I nailed it. Or rather GSI nailed it. This is one great little coffee pot, and my wife and I love it. In fact, we love it so much that it's not just a camping item -- we leave it on the stove and while we don't use it daily we do use it several times a week since the coffee is just so much better than the drip coffee that's been our daily staple. And Starbucks doesn't get as much of our money these days. It's sturdy, and even though I thought a 12-cup might be on the big side (considered the 9-cup), we usually wind up finishing the pot or at least most of it. I originally made smaller batches but quickly learned we drained the pot when I did. Now it's full pots every time. The silicon-covered handle keeps cool during use, and it's substantial enough for a guy like me with big hands. Everything comes apart smoothly and easily for cleaning, which is simple and quick. A trick I heard from another reviewer and incorporated myself is to use a regular drip coffee filter in the basket. It's really easy to just line it up over the center tube and press a hole into the filter to fit it in place. Keeps any stray grounds from making their way through the basket so I can use the regular drip coffee with terrific results. The only negative I can see is that the resin perk top (not glass, which is a good thing) does come loose after using the pot a few times due to metal expansion/contraction of the lid. When trying to screw it back in, it stays just a bit loose in the threads. And if you try to tighten it too much, it can easily "over-thread" and it will loosen again. There's a sweet spot of tight enough, but not too tight that works well (at least, so far). So in my book, it's far from a deal breaker. It's certainly not a no-brainer like the electric appliances, though. You really "make" coffee. I've found that with Kirkland 100% Colombian Coffee from Costco that three and a half generously rounded tablespoons is about right. I put the burner on high and wait for the water to come to a boil as I watch the clear perk top for the first sign of activity. When I see it, I immediately turn the burner down to half and let it perk away for five minutes. Man, old school really rocks....
