This unit works well but it's remote has different button arrangements than most and is confusing. One has to be patient.

I am on my fourth PVR, and as I have read elsewhere, they all use the same chipset / OS / interface. They are all buggy, and you learn to work around the bugs. But the Nippon America (NA) HD-ATSC-4 PVR reaches a new level of incompetence. I'm giving this PVR a score of 1 for the following reasons.1) The timer record function does not work. For example, if you program the PVR to record channel 6 from 2AM to 4AM, it will wake up at 2AM, change to channel 6, display a message it is about to start recording, then do nothing. At 4AM it will turn off. It believes it is recording. So if at 2:01AM you try to initiate the recording manually, it will display an error message that the program is "already playing". Perhaps the software guy confused recording with playing?2) The remote does not have a way to directly access already recorded shows. I believe this is what the remote "PVR" button is supposed to do, but the "PVR" button acts as a "RECORD" button. The only way to access recordings is to go through the menu (menu -> usb -> multimedia -> right -> scroll to pvr -> OK -> select the HPVR folder)3) The maker, Nippon America, has a website. They do not have any firmware updates posted on their website for this device. My PVR has a firmware date of 2017.
