Give Me More!
This set is drawn from the same series that aired on Vh1 a few years ago, but with one big difference- the songs are complete, and the sketches are too! Some of my favorites are here, including Elvis Costello's "Radio Radio", Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" among others. My only complaint is that this set makes me want more! Some of my favorites not on this set, that would make a great followup volume include:George Harrison and Paul Simon from 1976 "Homeward Bound" and "Here comes the Sun"Eric Idle's parody of "Here comes the sun"The original Rutles clipsTom Petty "I need to know"The Specials "Gangster"Rolling Stones from 1978 "Shattered" and the restGuido Sarducci's interview w/Paul and Linda McCartneyLinda Ronstadt and Phoebe Snow "It's in his kiss" (with Gilda and Laraine on backing vocals I think)Simon and Garfunkel and James Taylor "Cathy's Clown"The sketch with Matthew Broderick about Albert Goldman getting kicked out of the Beatles.Blondie "Dreaming"Squeeze "Pulling Mussels from a shell"Frank Zappa "I'm the Slime"Bob Dylan "When You gonna wake up"The Clash "Should I stay or should I go?"and many more....are you listening Lorne?

Great Music....slightly annoying presentation.
If i ruled the world, (and don't you think i should?), i would have put together all these great musical performances and a few choice comedy sketchs without any modern commentary from the current old fart incarnations of chevy chase, loren michaels, etc. i especially would not allow their pointless comments to interrupt said comedy sketches. i also would not have put titles with the names and dates of the performances on screen during the songs, because i hate that. But, alas, some other fool is in charge of the world right now! I also would have included Bob Dylan singing "I Believe in You" and Paul Simon and George Harrison's classic duets of "Homeward Bound" and "Here Comes The Sun". But there are some cool things on here. I just thought you would want to know what bugs Me, Al Frankin. (or whoever i am.)

Good Quality - Nice compilation - Entertaining
This set is a very entertaining compilation of historically significant bands in the rock genre. The great flavor of the Saturday Night Live performances was unique to the times and shines through in this 5-disk set. Comparable quality live video footage of many of the artists featured here is difficult to find. The music is presented with a few music-related comedy skits thrown in between, and this makes it more watchable than a music only DVD. The fact that some favorites were apparently left out of the mix should not deter anyone from enjoying the broad array of artists that did make it onto the disk.

This DVD Rocks!
The Neil Young "Keep on Rockin' in the Free World" is the best thing I have ever seen - I could watch it and watch it and watch it - worth the price of the DVD set JUST FOR THIS!A couple of years later - Oh My Goodness! Every time my boyfriend is "feelin' good" he puts these on and watches them. He has watched these DVD's over and over and over again. I am totally sick of them! But nonetheless - this is great music and I'm only tired of them because the guy that I bought them for has watched them SO MANY TIMES!!

Awesome Collection
This is an awesome collection of some of the best moments from Saturday Night Live, especially the early (pre-Spice Girls) days. Great performances by Patty Smith, Paul Simon, Beck, REM, the list goes on and on. I deducted a star for some of the music-related skits that were totally un-funny. The early ones were good (Bill Murray's cheesy lounge lizard act - priceless!) but declined in quality as the show got older - which is reflected by the rest of SNL as a whole.

Some Great stuff
Best live TV performance ever. During that period in the late 80s much of the music coming out of the mainstream was very "mechanised" ... and who thought this old guy was going to blow everyone away. Tom Petty doing "Free Falling" was another game changer during this period of time. And of course the famous Elvis Costello performance from the 70s. Queen does a notably small scale version of their bigger than life show.Depending on your tastes, the selections are good, but are mixed in with music related sketches that really aren't that funny ...

Excellent
Wow. All the memeries I've had from watching SNL's musical artists since the 70's are right here in this box set. I got it for my hubby, but we are both watching these dvds and remembering all kinds of things. The first time I heard the Talking Heads was on SNL doing "Take me to the River". Classic. Elvis Costello's "Radio" - great. The Pretenders doing "Don't get me wrong"-excellent! There's a different host for each dvd (Chevy Chase, Martin Short, Steve Martin...) If you have fond memories, like me, buy this box set--totally worth every penny.

Missing the greatest performance ever
I gave this 3 stars because it is missing the greatest performance ever.George Harrison and Paul Simon playing "Here comes the sun" and "Homeward Bound" together. How could you not put this performance on this set, 2 music superstars, playing 2 great songs together. They could have easily put this on and left off some of the crappy performers.
