Also will a small pancake compressor work with this? Thx** A: No, we've never been able to reverse the flow, we've just had to dump it out. We do not know if a pancake compressor will work for sure, but it should. I don't see why it wouldn't work. **Q: Is the pnuematic option that much better? trying to debate if it's worth the additional $30. tia** A: I like the pneumatic option. I've found you will lose pressure before completely extracting all oil. With the manual pump unit I owned previously I had to check the extractor every X minutes and give it a few extra pumps to get it sucking again. With the pneumatic option it will take care of that itself. When the pressure drops, your compressor will compensate. No need to constantly monitor the situation. **Q: does it remove gasoline from oil tank?** A: Oil is more viscous than gasoline so the extraction should be faster for gasoline. I performed the fourth oil change using Volvo recommended Castrol synthetic. Since this was her retirement car and we don't drive it much more than 4K miles a year now and the fact that we live 10 miles out of town (the vehicle is more than warmed up to operating temp every trip) I decided to extend the oil change interval to 2 years. For this last oil change I decided to actually read the owner's manual to see specifically what grade of motor oil to use. Turns out the Castrol I had used did not meet the ACEA A5/B5 specs called out in the manual so I decide to use Liqui Moly's Volvo specific formula. Therein lies the problem. I purchased an "oil change kit" from an on line (recommended) source which included the oil, a filter, new crush washer, new o-ring for the oil filler cap and o-ring for the filter housing. I received a large jug of Liqui Moly and three smaller containers. Prior to beginning the chore I rechecked the owner's manual to make sure I had understood. Yep, says right there "Oil volume 7.18 US quarts" I proceeded to empty the large jug and two smaller containers of the oil into the Volvo, opened the third small container and was looking at the gauge on the side of the container after pouring 8/10 of the container into the crankcase. Then it caught my eye. Written there, on the label, as plain as day it said 1L. Sure enough, Liqui Moly being a German brand measured their containers in Liters not quarts. DANG! Not only had I poured in what I thought was 3/4 of a quart too much turns out I had overfilled by an entire liter. Not wanting to try to remove a liter of oil via the drain plug I decide to order this fluid extractor. I had read a few reviews and found that someone said the oil dipstick tube was too short so I ordered a 1/4" tubing kit at the same time. Turns out the tube was long enough for the Volvo. I hadn't noticed when I ordered the extractor but there is a fitting that allows the use of an air compressor (and a corresponding ball valve for control) which eliminates the need of using the hand pump. My first use of this tool went well and made short work of extracting the oil. If there were any shortcomings that I experienced it would be that the instructions and illustrations were somewhat lacking especially when assembling the unit.
