Moon Knight Vol. 1: The Midnight Mission

Moon Knight has always been my favorite male Marvel Hero since I first discovered him in 1977 in an issue of The Defenders. Since then the character has changed and evolved. This volume presents the character in a new light, this time as a Priest to his God Khonshu as he serves and protects his community. New supporting characters are introduced as well as a new Villain. This series is off to a great start! The writing and art are fantastic! The story is compelling and makes me eager to get the next volume. This is definitely a book that you should be reading if you are a comic fan. It won’t disappoint and deserves all the awards and praise this series has received. A+ and 5 Stars!!!

If you like to read comics, if you like to read about anti heros and anti villains. This comic i recommend it pulls you into the story of it all. Makes you want to read more .

My thoughts on this story? Just… Woah. For starters, I loved the opening of the story with the vampire fight. Never would have imagined I’d see vampires come across Moon Knight/Mr. Knight’s path as is often shown dealing with criminals who bring harm to others during the night. Though, this entire situation makes sense as vampires, if not familiar with being turned or simply have no care for those around them, will cause harm to others to satisfy their blood thirst. Also, I loved that he chose to let the victims of these vampires live as they are not at fault for being in the new condition that they are in. Something that Mr. Knight emphasizes throughout the text that he wouldn’t ever fault anyone for simply being what they are. Rather, it’s their actions that define that. I enjoyed the whole idea of Mr. Knight creates the Midnight Mission for anyone that needs help throughout the night as well as the matter that he is like a priest (Moon Knight/Mr. Knight refers to himself as a “high priest”) as he is exorcising the evildoers who harm those “who travel at night”. On that note, I enjoyed the mentions of the Moon System’s Jewish heritage as well as the bouts of religious extremism and its impact on those who have it regarding how they view the world and interact with others. Lastly, I truly appreciated the fact that all alters were mentioned as well as the fact that the therapy sessions were cohesive with the rest of the comic/graphic novel (something I felt was lacking in the previous one I read).

Moon Knight Vol.1: The Midnight Mission was just what I needed after watching the Disney+ show. It’s a great for first time readers or if you’re like me and haven’t read Moon Knight comics in awhile. Jed MacKay really dives deep into the character. Giving us many personal moments on why he serves Khonshu, his issues of father figures, and his regret of the mistakes he’s made. We get a new cast of characters that have great chemistry with Marc. I love the small uses of color added in this grimy, dark city by Alessandro Cappuccio. The biggest issue is the big villain reveal really needed more issues to develop. It just happens out of nowhere with a forgettable character.

It shipped in perfect condition, none of the pages or the cover was bent. Also, this book is so beautiful to look at and an amazing starting point for Jed MaKay’s Moon Knight. If you are reading this and you haven’t read Moon Knight, this is your chance, you will not regret it.

This was a great snippit of who moon knight is i enjoyed the art, as well as the humor. I think ill head back and see this character's origin based on this title

Great stories about this goofy hero.

Great book. I enjoyed this book a lot more then I thought I would. In previous series of Moon Knight the best thing I could say about it was David Finch's artwork. The series has good artwork, good story and great characters. Marc Spector has decided to do things his own was. Though he embraces his "sacred" duty/mission of protecting his community by night, he does not feel the same about Khonshu. Can such a thing go unpunished. On top of that he has another enemy as well who wants him broken. A great start to the series, great characters introduced and to be explored. It seems the more baggage a character has makes them even more interesting. Enough action the to keep anyone interested. I also like the subtle difference in the artwork for Mr Kinght and Moon Knight. I definitely want see what happens next.

Superb art and story quality

As a fan of Jeff Lemire's run on Moon Knight this run does a lot of things right! It maintains the continuity from almost all previous Moon Knight works and creats a lot of new characters that are welcome additions to the main cast. Compared to other Moon Knight title this book deals less with Marc Spector's DID (disociative identity disorder) and more on how Marc's mind has been affected by being in contact woth Khonshu. I would recommend reading Jeff Lemire's run as well as the Avengers age of Khonshu before reading this so you understand the context, but otherwise this book does a great job of getting new Moon Knight fans up to speed in a very short amount of time. Highly recommended!
