Preparing Kids for the Real World and Their Best Selves Parents, teachers, therapists, and anyone who cares about a child or teen on the autism spectrum need this essential roadmap to prepare our youth for being successful adults in today’s world. Since the first edition of The Loving Push , the prevalence rate of children diagnosed as autistic has only continued to rise. Greater numbers of kids are transitioning into adulthood with a spectrum label than ever before. Researchers around the world churn out studies, many aimed at learning more about the factors that help autistic children learn and gain skills. Community awareness of autism has risen, and companies and colleges are taking notice. Best-selling author, autism advocate, and animal science professor Dr. Temple Grandin joins psychologist and autism specialist Dr. Debra Moore in spelling out which steps you can take to restore your child’s hope and motivation―and what you must avoid. Eight life stories told by people on the autism spectrum, including chapters on subjects like how to get kids off their computers, how to build on their strengths and get back to caring about their lives, and how to find a path to a successful, meaningful life make this a "must read book!" The greatest gifts we can give a child are those that help them grow into their best self. Parents and professionals alike strive to guide young people in developing a sense of self-worth and functioning in line with their highest capabilities. No matter what specific challenges a child may face, success is reaching the level of independence and engagement in the world they are realistically capable of achieving is the top priority. This book is our guide. Review: Must read for EVERY Parent - This book is a must read not only for parents whose kids have autism but also for parents whose kids are neurotypical. Tempe Grandin is truly amazing. I am speechless. Cannot believe some reviewers gave 3 or 4 stars. My kids are small but I already started using tips I got from this book with them and I see tremendous improvement! Review: Highlighted the entire book - I couldn't put this book down. It described my High functioning teen and our struggles to a TEE!!!!! I highlighted just about every page. Very wise works and practical advise

Validates common sense parenting for HF autistic kids
As a mom of a high functioning ASD kid, I am fully aware of his struggles. However, I have always tried to parent him the same way as my other son. The truth of the matter is this book validates the common sense parenting that I embrace. I’ve seen so many other ASD parents make excuses for their child, and I can’t help but wonder if it’s laziness on their part that is creating the learned helplessness. It’s honestly to the point where I would rather my son not be friends with the kids who’s parents order for their kid in a restaurant at the age of 15, wipe his face, cut his food etc. you get the idea. Isn’t the whole goal to make your kids, ASD or not, independent and self reliant for life?!? Thank you temple gradin for this common sense approach. I honestly keep this book handy and reread it from time to time.

A Must Read for Autism Parents
This is by far the best autism parenting book I have read (and I've read many!) It is clear, concise, and challenges us as parents/caregivers/counselors/friends/family to support and encourage kids/teens on the spectrum in a way that leads them towards independence and a meaningful life. Thank you for writing this book, Temple Grandin and Debra Moore! Please note: Even though this book was published in 2015, it is still incredibly applicable for today. Another note: This does not change my 5-star review, but the one thing I felt was missing was a section on becoming a parent with autism (which presents many challenges for people on the spectrum, in my experience).
