Those recesses are just too small and strangely angled. So I fully expected to have to file off part of the mouth on this one to get it to fit even partway. How happy am I then to find that it's a perfect fit out of the package for my Pietta 1858?! I don't know if TC altered their design or what, but this thing fits perfectly in the nipple recess, perfectly seats the cap, and cleanly releases with a gentle twist up. Durability will be a test of time, but I'm happy enough with this as it is - for $8 no less - thay I'll order another one for backup. I know some reviewers were frustrated that the item ordered doesn't quite match the ad copy; I would be too if I hadn't read their reviews. So I bought this with the full knowledge it would have only one steel spring opposite a brass side-wall. This one works. The point that it does not match the picture is true. I have and used the style in the picture and find this better. It says holds 17 caps, I only got 16 with effort, but that is O.K. I prefer even numbers. A comment about using #10 caps in it. Not in mine, #11 works great, #10 not at all. I mic'ed the #11 & #10 caps and found about a .032" on average difference in height.
