Having used several of these bought locally, my guess is the 8Cr13mov, both have some toughness when tempered, the 420HC is a little better & usually more expensive, though that may be a matter of opinion. I always look at the price to performance ratio, & the Milwaukee Fastbacks are great value per dollar. **Q: Whats the point in this blade style?** A: As an electrician at Intel, this is the ONLY blade style allowed on property. Only curved end type blades. Anything else will get you walked off the property and fired. This is a great stripping knife for stripping wire, especially very large gauge wire. **Q: Where can I find replacement blades?** A: From my understanding you just need to replace the whole knife. These blades are not interchangeable. **Q: Would this cut through 5mm thick 12 ounce hardened (thick hard shoe sole) leather, fairly easily slice up a hide?** A: It's just a knife with a hawkbill blade so if a regular knife will then this will.
