I have read several critical reviews for this product that talk about poor sharpening, weak motor, etc. I don't know what they are talking about. Maybe the company improved the motor recently but this is a solid Pencil Sharpner, that is almost as good as the classic Panasonic sharpener I used to have.First the Good:It is heavy. I have a smooth glass desk and I can easily sharpen pencils one-handed without it moving around.It makes a satisfying loud but not too loud grinding sound. It is not an anemic, weak motor. It has some grunt.It can chew through a pencil, but if you push lightly, it will stop drawing the pencil in once the proper angle is achieved.It feels solid and well-built.The Bad:As you can see in the picture, the angle is slightly off, so it does sharpen the pencil more on one side than the other, but it is not significantly off, just not perfect like my old Panasonic was.While it is solid, the plastic body does have a little flex, not as rock solid as I would like. if it dropped, I imagine the plastic might crack.Bottom line: This is the best new Sharpner I have found.I have tried hand crank and battery-powered models from Amazon too. They have all let me down and failed to live up to my expectations. But this sharpener is a quality product. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that it isn't quite as good as the classic Panasonic Sharpeners that are no longer made. Those are the gold standard.UPDATE: I've owned and used this sharpener for a few months now. It has given me no problems and continues to work great. One thing I have noticed is that it doesn't eat your pencils. If you don't push too hard you get a sharp point without eating a lot of wood, so my pencils are lasting a really long time. That means it is good for my wife's expensive art pencils as well as my writing pencils. As a result, I am upgrading my ranking from 4 to 5 stars.

I wanted to use this product for a while before reviewing. I have used this sharpener for over a year. I am a teacher and sharpen handfuls of pencils a day. I take care of the sharpener by emptying the bin often, and dont sharpen decorative pencils as their plastic film gums up the sharpener, same with colored pencils. So if you need a sharpener that just sharpens regular pencils, this one has done a good job for me so far. Evenly sharpens, easy to empty. Works as well today as when I first got it. Recommend!

A lot of people in my office tend to use mechanical pencils which is maybe why the sharpener hadn't been replaced in literally 20 years of being in business. We had a very good Japanese heavy duty sharpener that worked, but it took forever to sharpen the pencil and you could just tell the blades were very dull after so many years. I use this sharpener almost daily as I prefer normal pencils and also use a red pencils as well.I felt like it may be time to finally replace it & with the reviews on this I was inclined to try it. I can not even begin to explain how night and day its been with this new AFMAT Sharpener, Its so fast! My pencils are sharper than they've been in years and best part is that it doesn't sharpen it all uneven which was my biggest pet peeve.I also personally enjoy the color as well as how heavy duty it is, its not sliding or vibrating off the counter which was something I was worried about. Huge fan!

I liked that the sharpener is heavy duty and sharpens well and quickly. Unfortunately, it only sharpens the number 2 size pencils. I have different pencils that won’t go into the sharpener. I wish I had paid attention before I bought it to this fact. The one I had for over 40 years sharpened many sizes. This one is still a keeper.

This is a great pencil sharpener!! I got it for my daughter who has 5 small children and always has pencils of all kinds to sharpen after school for homework!!! She loves it!! The auto-stop is so helpful. Her 4 year olds can but their colored pencils in to sharpen and when sharp the sharpener auto stops and the pencils do not get too pointy or break!!! What a time saver and there is no waste of pencils! Super product.

I needed a good pencil sharpener for our homeschool class room, and so far it's lasted a year, even with the abuse my boys tend to put on things. Great sharpener, great price.

I'm a cartoonist and use only the best art pencils for my drawings. I've tried using expensive Staedtler pencil sharpeners, and they either over-sharpen or leave me with weird shaped tips. The AFMAT is sturdy and gives me a consistent and clean tip every time. It's worth buying just for that.

Very good and stable

Llevo tres semanas usando el sacapuntas, hasta ahora no ha fallado, saca muy buenas puntas a los lápices y a los colores. Tarda como 2 o 3 segundos en sacarles punta, es muy rápido. Me gusta mucho este producto.
