I'm glad I splurged!
Just set this fan up last night. I live in a small, 600 sq ft apartment, which gets super hot in the evenings when it's sunny. In the summers it can easily get up to 26 or 27 degrees Celsius. I have a portable a/c in my bedroom, but evenings in my living room can be pretty sweaty, even with my old $9.99 cheapo fan. Last night I tried this fan for the first time and I actually had to move it further away from me because I was TOO cool! I bought the unit with the small floor stand because I need the fan to be able to point downwards off my breakfast bar, and not many fans do that. The three speeds are great, with the highest speed being a very powerful wind, and the lowest speed being a cooling breeze. The noise level, I found, was definitely better than the cheapo fan that I had before, while moving a lot more air. I don't really care about the noise that much because when you're moving a lot of air it's always going to create some sort of noise - it's to be expected. The lowest setting was very quiet. All in all, I'm very glad I splurged on this fan because it's going to keep me a lot cooler than my old fan! Summer nights will be much more tolerable now.

Does fantastic job of moving air around!
This Vornado air circulator does a fantastic job of moving air around! I live in a tiny second floor one-bedroom apartment in an 100-year-old building. I have a portable air conditioner which should adequately cool the apartment, but on the hottest days does not due to poor air flow caused by the odd configuration of the rooms. I was using an oscillating tower fan, but it didn't do a very good job of moving air around. The Vornado solved this problem easily -- I now have cool air flowing throughout the apartment and am very comfortable even on nearly 100-degree days. The Vornado seems to be energy-efficient as there was a negligible increase in my electric bill (about $1) for the one-month billing period I have been using it. The Vornado, while not silent, is extremely quiet -- I barely hear it even when I stand next to it. Price-wise, the Vornado is a bit spendy compared to similar air circulators, but I consider it worth the extra expense since it did such a great job of solving my problem. I'm very happy with this purchase and highly recommend the Vornado.

Well-designed Mid-Size Fan For Most Rooms
I live in New York City and it gets hot in the summer. With smaller rooms than most of the country, I needed a compact cooling solution when it gets too hot. Enter the Vornado 623DC fan. โ DESIGN โ What's not to love? You get Vornado's clean industrial design in a versatile white color. It's attached to a curved gray stand that makes the fan look like it's floating at certain angles. The neck swivels up and down and stays in place. I do suggest carrying this by the gray stand instead of the fan as it's more secure that way. โ FAN SPEED โ Most fans have three speeds: low, medium, high. This model allows variable speeds so you can choose exactly how much cooling you want; it's a nice step up from typical fans. This fan will do a good job of circulating the air or cooling you down during a hot day. It's also a great complement to an air conditioner. If you're cooking and it gets really smokey, it does a great job moving smoke out windows. โ CONCLUSION โ I've been a Vornado fan for some time. I love their designs, functionality, and how long they last. I've owned this for two years now and bring it out of storage every summer. Recommended.

Great fan. very expensive
Excellent fan. Probably the most powerful fan I have ever been in front of. It can really put out some serious CFM. the construction of the fan is very solid. it is made in USA. the casing is a matte ish plastic and very sturdy. The knob to adjust power is very smooth, unlike other fans it is just Off and Maximum and any level between. Medium/Max (7/10) gets pretty loud but as others have said, its just the Air moving (literally impossible to move the amount of air so fast wuthout making noise). There are no other features. no sleep timer, no oscillation (not needed). no auto on/off. just point and power. Unfortunately I cant justify the high cost for a fan (226$ CAD) and had to return the product. It really is a beast of a fan though

Variable speed vs three-speed fans
I wanted a variable speed fan as the uses are much more than a three-speed fan. The ability to adjust the fan speed--and the motor/blade volume--allows one to use this fan in everything from a baby's nursery to a garage. It's wonderful and the need to adjust the volume/speed is greater than you'd think for each individual situation. I have high 22-foot ceilings in my living room, and so much hot air is trapped up there in the winter it's crazy. So, I bought this fan and have it at about 30% of max speed pointed straight up to the ceiling (the fan tilts nicely on the robust metal stand), it's quiet enough to watch TV and not notice anything more than a dull "white noise" if I am listening for it, and the amount of air that now circulated off the hot cavern ceiling above is amazing. I sit on my couch and it's at least 6-7degrees warmer here than with the fan off. That's a lot! Percent of max speed and uses: I also use it as a gentle white noise napping fan in afternoons (15%); for cooling on my rowing and treadmill workouts (80%); for circulating air off my ceiling (30%); for speeding up clothes drying on my rack (50%); for airing out my bathroom when someone sets off a colon bomb I100%...lol...just kidding, more like 50%); for drying wet carpet (100%); for drying moldy basement (66%); for drying a wet dog (40%); for gentle air movement while you sleep (10%), etc. You'll find more uses once you have the fan and appreciate the speed variability. There are YT videos showing the electricity use of this fan, and on low power its drawing about 22 watts, and on high power it's drawing 66 watts (i.e. basically the same as a traditional incandescent 60 watt bulb). I almost never use it on highest power though unless I'm drying rugs or clothes. The noise is loud on full speed. I own many fans, including an 18-inch Patton all-metal, 3-speed industrial fan. Those are effective, but noisy. I adore the ability to adjust the speed infinitely for my needs. It's the best fan I have ever owned.
