FULL OF ADS
To begin with, I am not much into fashion, so take that into consideration while reading my review. I grew up in the mid-west, where for most people considering we are surrounded by corn fields and our communities are filled with farmers, comfort is more important than fashion. You are more likely to see farm and home stores than fashion stores. Anyway, this was only $5 so I took a chance on ordering it along with several other magazines (which I have a surplus of and am currently behind on reading lol) and this is one of the only ones that even though it is only $5, I had to cancel even if they didn't refund me. I just did not want this coming to my house every month. It is a thick magazine which is good and bad, but one issue was like an encyclopedia. When I started flipping through the pages, MOST of it was ads for products and designers. Just women posing in silly clothes and makeup. The articles, to me, were boring, bland, and not relevant to my life or interests. I read one article where a woman struggled with her appearance because she was Jewish and had a big nose and whatever and it made me kinda sad that she couldn't accept herself for such a long time. Everyone is beautiful in different ways and magazines like ELLE present a culture of one kind of beauty which really isn't beautiful. It's fake and kind of scary. So I just did not want this magazine in my house. I am sticking with more down to earth magazines. I enjoy a range of health magazines, home and family magazines, and girly magazines that aren't quite so fashion centered. Again, this is my opinion so please don't criticize me. I understand location has a lot to do with how you view fashion and body image but I am perfectly happy with me!Update: I'm glad some people are finding my review helpful! I also forgot to mention that my mom (a woman in her 50's) exchanges magazines with me and this magazine has very small print which made the magazine hard for her to read. And I flipped through the last issue I received and most of the articles (at the end of the magazine since the first half of it is full of ads) were about feminism. I am not a feminist and that's as far as I'll go on that subject. You can formulate your own opinion of the articles. Just pointing it out to potential subscribers since I had no idea what to expect from this magazine. Another article in this magazine was defending photo shop and feeding false body images to women as artwork like it is no big deal! I was shocked because it contributes to eating disorders and low self esteem in many women, especially young women. A better name for this magazine would be SUPERFICIAL.

you can tell a good magazine by how many corners you turn down....
I had been a fan of ELLE magazine in the past but I recently started this subscription in large part because of the five dollars for a year deal; if the first issue is any indication of what to expect I'm happy I took the opportunity to order....The fashion layouts are organized in such a way that even though the price tags mostly elude my budget, you can still appreciate and even make some sense of the trends they are taking about.The articles are more than 10 seconds long; I had noted that other magazines have a very ADD approach to articles, like you'll burst into flames if it takes more than a minute flat to read. Nice variety here in articles of different lengths, with timely *and* interesting subjects like Tina Fey.Beautifully photographed artsy/fashion section.When I get a new magazine in the mail, I usually flip through and fold down pages I'd like to go back to. I consider it a good sign that this issue has many, many turn-downed corners waiting for my attention.{regarding the subscription - ordered 11/17/11, received the first issue in December (Jan 2012 issue).}

As an artist, the amount of photos over articles is the reason I like ELLE
I collect this magazine; I have about four years worth on a bookshelf. I discovered it in high school and I find the ads, photo shoots, and many photographs very appealing for my art. I get lots of pose reference, clothing ideas, color schemes, and other forms of inspiration and help through the aid of my magazines. It's nice to look through "hey that's a good pose for such-and-such" and be able to have a reference for the anatomy and proportions. Now while I do read the articles and skim through the text, I'm interested in this for being something to look at and reference and not something to read. Sure some text is nice, but I'm not big spender interested in the little tips and tricks they have for name branded items and clothing. All in all, it's a picture book for really cheap. Sometimes the length varies (March 2013 was a fat, fat edition, but January 2013 was incredibly thin in comparison) and this is a bit disappointing, but overall I'm happy to have bought a year subscription and will likely renew when it's up.

Pretty Magazine - Too Many Ads
I think I remember a version of Elle from years ago that was a bit more robust than it is now. The magazine is still pretty - nice photography, etc.etc. But - for my taste, too many ads and not enough content. The price point was good though. So to keep up on newer beauty products, give this mag a try but don't look for articles of substance.

Thin magazine
The magazi e is enjoyed although not as much fashion in it as hoped.

Great to find unusual body poses for sketching
This has been the best source for me to find unusual body poses to practice my figure drawing. Where I might get 2-3 pictures from other fashion magazines, I can get 15 or more from one issue of Elle. I also like the fashions that Elle features, they're not too crazy or wierd and I can also get some good fashion and clothing sketching done too.

Mom likes it
I get it for my Mom. She's always been in tune with fashion trends, style and looking good even if She is 91.

Great Magazine/Poor Format
My first try with an E-Magazine on Kindle. One of the things I always hate about paper mags is that I see an ad or website mentioned and I never remember to visit the site after I put the magazine down. I thought an e-mag would allow clickable links to the various ads and websites so I could check them out and shop, but sadly, that is not the case. I don't know if it's just Elle or that is how all of the e-mags work?? I won't be buying another, at least with the paper ones you get free samples now and then.
