Eydie wasn t the first pop singer to dabble in country music, but she was one of the best, as this album, which made the 1964 charts, melodiously attests. And any time you get to hear Eydie singing in front of Don Costa arrangements, well, that s a treat not to be missed! The complete, original release, with three bonus tracks and a note from the late, great lady herself. Review: Country With Style - Eydie does a great job on all the songs on this CD. While her Don't Go To Strangers/Softly As I Leave You CD is my all time favorite, this CD ranks pretty high on the list. She brings a different perspective to many of the songs and appears to be having fun singing them. Eydie's voice is in top form and the arrangements by Don Costa enhance rather than overpower the material. While it is hard to pick my favorite on this CD, I think it is "The End of The World". Eydie does a great job on songs that tell a story such as "When He Leaves You" on the "Don't Go To Strangers" CD and on this CD the "It Takes Too Long To Live Alone" a song I'd never heard before. Review: Eydie rips your heart out - Don't really like C&W music much. Bought this because it contains "It Takes Too Long To Learn To Live Alone," great song. Gorme will rip your heart out. The woman could sing. Even the Eddie Arnold and Patsy Kline stuff is good, though some of the rest is marginal.

Eydie Gorme has a beautiful natural voice
Eydie Gorme has a beautiful natural voice. I enjoyed listening to "Gorme Country Style". The song selections were wonderful. However, some of the songs had a more authentic country flavor with singers such as Patsy Cline or Brenda Lee.

Eydie Gorme -- Country Style
This is a killer album. Great songs and of course, she is the best. I first bought a vinyl when it first came out, then I bought the cassette and now I have the CD.

Heaven Gorme Style
Everyone who writes these reviews have their favorite album & artist. Well, this album & singer are mine. I adored Country Style before I got it. In the 1960s, country singer, Jimmy Dean had Eydie on his TV variety show. She was plugging this which then was a new release. She sang 3 songs in a row & then out did him in a duet. He had her on again & Gorme sang more from this masterpeice. BOY! WOW! PRAISE THE LORD! From then on Eydie was my musical Goddess! Probalby Joan Baez, Julie Andrews, & Jane Morgan have better voices technically but no one knows more than Ms. Gorme what to do to a specific song. Johnny Carson to Eydie "You could sing the winning hand of a poker game." Playboy & Milwaukee Journal agreed she was the most self-assured singer in the business. Carol Burnet simply stated that she was the world's greatest lady vocalist. Why is Eydie all of this? Well, she can use a distinctivly wide pop range without being generically operatic. She's also a great dramatist! Whatever the mood, Eydie sings. Arranger Don Costa crafted the best versions of old classics. In this case, those classics weren't over done! Sure her voice has aged but she still can do more than other singers. Well now to these 12 orginal songs! Many were top 10 hits but Eydie gives them the respect of an old classsic. I Walk The Line as a Lady is a Tramp not some twangy country song. NEITHER sap NOR pop & country pretension here, just staright Gorme vibrancy! All 12 orginals are the best versions ever recorded! Someday & Make the World Go Away vibrate as only she can, Her 2nd Columbia lp didn't live up to her standards. This 3rd release more than makes up for it. I can't imagine not ownig this masterpeice!. I'd rather part with my Sinatra swinging Capitol, Fitgerald Songbooks, & Streisand self-titled albums. Yet, I adore all of those!

GORME COUNTRY STYLE - A MUST HAVE For Every Fan!
Run, don't crawl to the order page for this better late than never release of Eydie's "GORME COUNTRY STYLE" cd. Way overdue and kept in Columbia's vaults for way, way too long, this is Eydie's 2nd best Columbia release headed by "Don't Go To Stranger's" which is in my humble opinion, Eydie's best album for that label. "GORME COUNTRY STYLE" was Eydie's second release for Columbia following on the heels of her highly successful "BLAME IT ON THE BOSSA NOVA". Though Eydie's "style" is universal and she has been blessed with the versitality to sing in any style and sound as if she's been doing it for years! She effectivley injects each and every song on the 12-tracks of the original release with new life and make them her inimitable own. The bonus track "PLEASE HELP ME I'M FALLING" is a very welcome addition having been recorded during the sessions for the lp, however, "WILD ONE" & "IT TAKES TOO LONG TO LEARN TO LIVE ALONE" do not belong on this recording. While "WILD ONE" was a "B" side of her 1970 RCA hit "TONIGHT I'LL SAY A PRAYER", and an excellent song not included on the lp, it belongs on an RCA Records release as a bonus song for the album of the same name and NOT this cd from Eydie's Columbia catalogue. Likewise with "IT TAKES TOO LONG TO LEARN TO LIVE ALONE" which also is a terrific cut. It is the english lyric of "EN ESTA SOLEDAD", a song from an lp Eydie released in 1976, "LA GORME"; BOTH SONGS MENTIONED, ARE QUITE OUT OF PLACE and DO NOT belong on this particular excellent release from Eydie's Columbia work in 1963. However, buy it for the 13 songs recorded for the original "GORME COUNTRY STYLE". You'll be very, very glad that you did!
