For certain model years, the OEM head unit was actually wider than 2DIN, so you needed these spacers to fill the gaps on the sides when installing a true 2DIN. I had a 2002 Solara and the OEM head unit was a true 2DIN (no spacers required). I also know the same head unit was offered in the 2002 Camry. The only thing to note was the stock location of the the stock brackets need to move when applying these brackets and the JVC radio.
