This P80 was part of the set of abrasives I used to remove the heavy build-up on a ceiling. There's popcorn ceiling, and then there is fossilized stalactites. This ceiling was way beyond popcorn and needed much more aggressive abrasives than the P120, P150 and P220 I usually use on drywall. Altogether I used Festool P60 and P80 and Mirka Abranet 80 to grind down the ceiling with a Festool PLANEX. Each abrasive had a role to play, and each worked well. The P60 was very hungry. The P80 was more controllable when the hard covering had been ground down almost to the drywall beneath. Of course they were the usual Festool quality. Cost is commonly mentioned as an "issue" with Festool. In this case I paid $42 for a box of 25 abrasive discs, which is $1.68 per disc. Let me geek out for a sec: That works out to about 0.7 cents per square inch. Compare that to the 5 inch (125 mm) discs for the ROTEX or ETS sanders, such as $40 for 50 discs. That's 1 cent per square inch. That means the PLANEX discs are a bargain compared to the smaller discs. But the cost PER JOB is not high. I used just two P60 and one P80 discs on that nasty ceiling, total $5.04 for the job. With that kind of durability and reliability I'm happy.

I am a regular user of Festool abrasives, however this would be my first use of the 9 inch size. They did not disappoint. Although pricey, Festool always produces a superior product.
