I have extremely thin, baby-fine hair and SLIPPERY - SOFT.  My ponytail section is smaller than the diameter of a dime.  But these are beautiful in my hair.

I use these French Hair Forks as an ornament because they will not hold my hair reliably on their own.  I put my hair in an updo and hold it securely with small, clear plastic bobby pins.  Once my hair is securely in place, I put one of these large hair forks into the bun and it not only gives me a little volume, but it actually appears that the hair fork is holding my style in place.  The trick is to make sure the clear plastic bobby pins are discreetly pinned into the hair so that they do not show.  The hair forks are only decorative for me BUT THEY ARE SO BEAUTIFUL.

Just use some smaller hairpins to bring security to your style and then weave the French Hair Forks as a crowning touch...

If your hair is not fragile like mine, you can use small metal bobby pins to make your style secure and add the French Hair Forks as a decoration.  I think they give the illusion of extra volume.  And a loose bun gives the effect of even more  volume.
