Life changing anxiety management tool.
They work very well, pretty much exactly as advertised. They don't reduce volume of anything or create any muffling you might have with earplugs, nor do they create any uncomfortable awareness of your own voice/insides like you can get wearing earphones for example. They simply change the balance of sound frequencies to be more "flat". It takes any harsh sounds and just brings them down to an even level. Don't test them for the first time in a quiet environment, you likely won't notice the difference. It's very subtle, try them instead somewhere where there are noises that normally makes you feel uncomfortable. I did it on my daily walk to begin with, and when particularly loud cars/trucks went past me that normally are a bit much to listen to, they were much more manageable. I then used it at a wrestling show with dozens of people shouting and making noise for hours, and it made an incredible difference to my feelings of anxiety. I now don't leave the house without them, because it's just an easy win for me that helps to slow down the accumulation of anxiety within me that causes me to have a more difficult time in daily life. Wearing them when going shopping in a supermarket is a dream for example. So much more manageable with the endless cacophony of beeping, talking, clanking etc. It takes a while to get used to having them in your ears and you have to push them in deeper than you are initially comfortable to do, but this is why they have a little handle for you to pull them out of your ears. The "technique" I use is to put them on the end of my index fingers, then place them gently into my ear canal, and wiggle my fingers from side to side as I gently push them deeper into my ears, until they "lodge" into place. It takes practice to get it right but it's worth persevering with. They will never fall out this way. (see picture to see where they sit in my ears) The first few times I wore them I didn't push them deep enough into my ears, so they kept falling out, including while walking round a supermarket, which caused me more anxiety than I was trying to solve with them, so I took them out. But then I figured out the "technique" and they've been totally fine since. They come with a really high quality drawstring mesh bag that I always keep in my pocket when I am wearing them in case I do want to take them out. They actually sell a little metal pot to keep them in if you want but I find this bag is perfect. Honestly these have been life changing for me. If you suffer from chronic anxiety while in social settings then you owe it to yourself to at least give these a try. I was sceptical at first, but decided I had nothing to lose, and I am so glad I tried them.

Very impressed and have made a big difference
I had heard recommendations from some friends about noise filtering headphones and looked around at some different brands. I went with flare as they had good reviews. I wasn't disappointed! I have ADHD and noise sensitivity which can make me feel on edge and overwhelm me. I wear these all the time, out in public places, soft play and indoors when the kids are a wingy mood and they really help stop the noise rattling my brain and making me cranky! They are very easy to put in and out and are so comfy I often forget they are there. The only issue that I found is that if I'm eating the motion of my jaw makes them wiggle loose but I do normally just take them out to eat now. I also purchased the metal container to put them in, I have clipped it onto my handbag so I'm never without them. They are pricier than some of the other ones on the market but they are pretty invisible in your ears, I'll be wearing them in my wedding day to help me drown out the noise of the relatives a bit! Highly recommend these for anyone that struggles in noisy environments.

For autism: they work. BUT…
This is my second pair of Calmer ear buds. They work very well in omitting excess noise while out and about. That ‘ocean’ or ‘wall’ of noise that most autistic people experience within the outside world is limited to a manageable level. You can hear conversation clearly, and the noise doesn’t all overwhelm at once. It does it’s job. However, what good is this when the ear bud does not safely stay in place in the ear? Even after following the instructions to the T, the ear bud seems to stay in place for a short period of time, before one or both falling out (without me realising) at some point in the day. They aren’t cheap. And these were my second replacement pair. The first lot - one had fallen out while I was walking and I didn’t realise it until I got home. This pair, both fell out while at a gig - unable to be found or recovered due to lack of light. They aren’t cheap. You get one pair and it costs 17-20 quid for two tiny bits of silicone that don’t stay put properly. Unless they reduce the price drastically, or sell them as a set of 10 or something, it’s just not worth it. They advertise this item to be worn while on the go - and they are not fit for purpose. Feel a bit scammed to be honest and hope another company come up with a viable alternative.

LIfe savers
I have misophonia. Hearing people chewing food, slurping drinks, etc leaves me masking hard to conceal seething rage. My wife has friends who are noisy eaters yet keep inviting us to dinner. I'll usually try to find an excuse not to, but sometimes I need to be the dutiful husband and go along to dinner. A long evening of crunch, crunch, slurp, slurp. Without these, I'd probably be a long-term guest at His Majesty's pleasure. They do cut out a lot of the noise and make those evenings just about bearable. I also have some Loop Switch earplugs, which I do find more effective, but there's a trade off between effectiveness and discretion. Wearing these Flare Calmers is a lot less obvious and don't scream "I'm trying to block out all the noise you make" like the Loops do.

did not work for me and my misaphonia
it may work well for others, but mine have gone in the bin after several attempts to use them. I have reverted to normal earplugs which do work for me. they keep falling out and when in they dont seem to cut out any of the annoying background noise I dislike.

Bought the normal size Calmer (not the mini). My ear size is medium on any earbuds. But the calmer keeps on sliding out of my ear. It's so small and won't fit properly. No change on the surrounding noise. No improvement. Just a little bit of reduction.
