Excellent Book
Bought this for my son as he is very interested in ships from the American Revolution and Napoleonic era. He loves it. As an adult also interested in the subject. it showed me many things that I did not now. The illustrations are fantastic and give you insight to life aboard those amazing sailing ships.

Intimate view on life aboard the HMS Victory
This book is both educational and fun. It delves deep into the life and construction of a large British warship, based specifically on the First-rate HMS Victory. The ship's spliced cutaways offer an intimate view onto the claustrophobic life aboard this ship.

all you've ever wanted to know without enlisting...
I have had an interest in these ships of the line, the large vessels carrying many guns & spreading the power of the UK, & other nations, across the globe. This book opens up various sections inside of these men-of-war to explain where those things you may have heard of, are! It focuses somewhat on the British Navy, the great power at this time, and on Admiral Horatio Nelson, brilliant naval tactician & victor at the great naval battle of Trafalgar in 1805 I believe it was? If you've ever had an interest in the Royal Navy that made 'Rule Brittania' a reality, this is the book for you, & perhaps even the Old Salts would enjoy going back in time too?

Great book. Amazing art. Fantastic BUY.
I had this book as a child. And just having a copy again has made me so happy. Plus, well I bought a used copy... It arrived in literally perfect condition. Looks like it was never even opened. All the memories.

Awesome companion to any "Age of Sail" type book
I'm reading the Patrick O'Brien books in the Master and Commander series. This book helps visualize the exciting happenings aboard the old ships of the line!

A masterpiece of illustrated history, and amusing to boot!
Endlessly fascinating. I've picked this up and perused it dozens of times and it never fails to intrigue, amuse, and inform. And if you have a boy in your family -- wow! -- will he love it.

Great book but look for an earlier edition to really enjoy the cross-sections at a larger size
First, this is a great classic book. If you are interested in the Age of Sail, no matter your age, you will find something rewarding in the text annotations and cross-sections.I've deducted a star however because the 25th anniversary 2019 edition print "size” has been IMO shrunk a bit too much (roughly 10x12in) for the greatly detailed cross-sections to really shine. Misleadingly, the new cover features an enlarged cross-section with great detail but the cross-sections presented inside have been zoomed out from the original printing to fit the smaller print size.I'm sure those who have never seen any of these before would still be thrilled (especially those with bright young eyes), but the size reduction has definitely curtailed the immersive delight I get at the original print size. If you really care about enjoying the find details in the cross sections, you might look for an earlier edition (the 1993 edition is almost 11x14in).

Good quality used book.
This is a fantastic and very interesting book. It provides a good snapshot of what conditions were like on sailing ships of that period, although by the nature of the format, it doesn't go into great depth on any given aspect of life.In terms of condition, it was bought used and this was visible in minor ways, but it was very gently used and well treated.

Disease and illness was their biggest factor, morale and rum
This was for a child and because all things to this book interest everyone I took a little peak inside.Wholly fantastic with it's super drawings detail facts and a little push off - dad. As seemingly rare to get such an entertaining insight.I wonder if this publisher can ever think about the evolution of the honey bee - we must wait and see.
