They are weighted with sand so you may be able to use them in water **Q: what size wrist will these fit around?** A: I wear these on my wrists since they are too small for my ankles, and the area on my wrist where I wear them is 10" in circumference. **Q: How bulky are these?** A: They were an acceptable bulk. However, I returned them because they were too big around my ankle and slipped down unless I put on shoes. **Q: What size ankle do they fit?** A: They are adjustable because of the velcro but if you have very slender ankles they may not fit. At their narrowest point, my ankles are 8.5" in circumference and the weights just about hang on. I've had other ankle weights and usually the attachment straps are narrow strips that wrap around the back and cause pouching. These have broad velcro integrated at the ends and stay tight, no sagging. I recommend highly and would purchase a second set if I could get them as 5lbs each.---It is now Nov 7, 5 weeks after purchase and one of the seams has separated in a gap of about 1/4" so the weight beads keep falling out. I wish I could get an exchange.
