If you are on the fence about getting a tailgate lift assist kit, just do it. It is hands down one of the best, most practical upgrades you can make to your truck. No more slamming my tailgate down anymore..it squealed a high pitched sound for about 10 open & closing’s,but after that it made no noise and works perfectly..fit my 2019 Ranger perfectly..would definitely recommend purchasing.

Product works great as advertised. The only thing I would do differently: the last step in the installation instructions say to cut-to-fit the clear “film” on the area where the tailgate closes to prevent any wearing of the paint where the factory tailgate cable may rub. IMO, this should have been one of the first steps since it’s easier to get to that area with the tailgate cable removed. I tried doing it last (per the instructions) and it was basically impossible to get the film behind the cable/soft-open device smoothly and crinkling up. When I did this step it looked really messy. If I can find more of the film that came with the device, I plan to take the device/cable off, then apply the protector film, then resassemble. Aside from that, product is great and highly recommend.

Update 11/16/2023: The seller has reached out to me and issued a full refund. I am updating this review just to include this information. Due to the good customer service, I am changing my rating from 1 star to 4 stars. Keep in mind, they did not ask me to change my review, nor was it a condition of my refund to do so. All they did was reach out and ask if I wanted a refund or a new product, I opted for the refund since I had already purchased a new tailgate assist of a different brand for my truck. The original review remains unedited below. Obviously, I was pretty angry when I wrote it, but I'm happy everything worked out in the end. I bought one of these a few months ago for my 2004 GMC Sierra 1500. It worked alright for a while, until it didn't. Several weeks ago, it completely stopped working. I opened my tailgate and let it fall, as I had grown accustomed to doing, and the tailgate slammed down with zero resistance. After returning to this page and noticing some of the absolutely ridiculous claims this company is making, I decided to make a review on it. 1) Despite what they're telling you, it's not going to make it easier to close your tailgate, it only slows the tailgate down when you open it and helps prevent it from slamming (Until it breaks, that is). 2) Claiming it (and I quote) "extend(s) the service life of the entire back end of your vehicle" is such an insanely outrageous claim that it's almost humorous. I don't think I need to elaborate on that. 3) "Rest Easy: This will be the only tailgate shock your truck will ever need. Tested and durable" How much testing did it take to make a product that completely fails after a few months? 4) "Orion Motor Tech backs it with a lifetime warranty and after-sales service." Conveniently, there doesn't seem to be any contact information listed where I could take advantage of this "lifetime warranty" and get a replacement for my faulty product. And with a $20 price tag, they're clearly bluffing anyway. Surely if you backed your product and did that much testing to ensure your product was extremely durable, you'd provide contact information or some kind of instruction to talk to customer service, right? Because if you have a superior product, you know not many people will need it, but out of the few that would, it's all about customer feedback. But if you make claims like this and don't back it up, obviously it's because your product is trash. Overall, ignoring the fact that it didn't last very long at all, I actually liked this product a lot. Initially when I installed it, the support cable on the tailgate would get pushed out of the gap, to where it was sticking outside, as some others have mentioned. Turns out it was just because I tightened one of the bolts when it was supposed to be left loose, and loosening the bolt fixed the problem. As tempted as I am to buy another one of these for only $20, I don't see the point in waiting for it to break. If I have to cradle my tailgate every time I open it, anticipating that inevitable moment it stops working, then what's the point in using this product in the first place? Overall, I would not recommend this product. If you do buy it, buy it as a gift for someone you don't like, and in a few months they'll slam their tailgate when the product fails.

Great instructions, arrived quickly, and works as described.

It will only work on the drivers side. I bought two because of the reviews but the bottom bracket is only made for the drivers side. Easy to install and it does help tremendously but two would be better. I thought I’d be able to cut the mount to fit but it will not align properly. I attempted to return the item but the seller stated no need to return! Fantastic to work with, amazing customer support and refund was immediate!

Easy to install and works great but the instructions could use some little side notes. On my 2021 f-150 I had to remove a bracket to get the tailgate to close cause the bracket was hitting the shock. The tools that came with the kit is not bad but the T-50 wrench fits very sloppy so I just used my own that fit better. I have attached a photo of bracket hitting the shock for reference for other f-150's

Ordered for my 2001 F150 Super crew. Needs a fair bit of drilling/ modification to work, not as straightforward as the instructions made it seem. The shock itself works great but the geometry is all wacky on the mounting brackets and the tailgate will not close without modification. Edit: adjusted the position of the bracket on the bed and welded the threaded ball inside the tailgate and it works flawlessly, not bad for 20$ but a little more labor than is to be desired for most im sure.

Very happy with this tailgate dampener, half the price of Deezee for what appears to be an equal product. I had a Deezee on another truck and the cable was constantly binding on it. This doesn't do that and doesn't look like it ever will on my 26 Ford Maverick.

Did. Not install item,there are better ones in the market for same or less money.

Installed on 2017 Chev 3500. Fits perfect and works excellent. Easy to install. Nice slow release tailgate now. Definitely recommend.

Worked Excellent, Great product. Way better then those with the cheap Riv Nuts that never work. Install was all of 5 mins. 2 of those because I forgot the washer the first time.
